    Current trends in mite treatment

my error for not qualyifiying that not treating for mites in non vhs colony’s is likely to lead to an increase in mite load etc Also being Vsh doesn’t mean no mites so the ones that are there can still be carried and spread to other colonies and attack your bees. I don’t think breeders are...

    Possible Mating Flight?

I have noted that Bees do start making a lot more noise in the hive if you take the queen out for any length of time ie when splitting a hive in 2 even if you don’t see her the box with a queen in will be much quieter noise wise

    Brood breaks and no eggs

To expand on the original question .and not to be confused with say winter reduction in egg laying 1) when And why can we expect a queen to stop laying for a short period. 2) if we note a queen isn’t laying new eggs how long do we tell ourselves “she is on a brood break”

    Brood breaks and no eggs

It’s more of a general question as I can’t find a definitive answer . I do have a queen that last year appeared to lay well for a while then took a break then layed well for a while befor another break and so on. She is going to be permanently retired before winter I’m just seeing if I can...

    Brood breaks and no eggs

I often read the reassuring answer to an ops question …. The queen could be on a brood break. what I can’t find out is the average length of time these brood breaks go on for. lots of factors I appreciate but as an example At this time of year how long would it be sensible for a beek to assume...

    Honey price

I might also add that, labour aside, once a beekeeper has got the equipment (suit, hives, extractor etc.), the only cost is varroa treatments, foundation and a few other sundries. Once a beekeeper has all this, it's just money for old rope really. on that basis Nissan must have covers the cost...

    Dead Chicken

A lot of young foxes starting to learn their trade at this time of year and Chickens plural carried off indicates Charlie.. I lost 11 this summer in one night. However the striping of feathers and eating the head is indicative of a bird of pray…. Young fox is my guess though
