What did you do in the Apiary today?

Ivy is open here in SW Scotland, so I’d assume it reached Dorset by now…

    Your highlights of the season.

    - Working better with the bees, knowing more. - Mentoring a lady in the village. - Charging more for my honey & it’s actually selling quicker - Making mead for the first time - Looking forward to making soft set soon using my new Abelo creaming machine.

    Don’t disagree on those.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Just walked through the apiary. Cool and windy, max of 11c, very little flying. Looking from the clear boards, some colonies are in semi (loose) cluster.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Sitting here, windy and grey outside, looking at Ian’s post above, salivating 🤤

What did you do in the Apiary today?

    Looks amazing. If I was there, I’d say 2. Otherwise 1 😜

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Ivy is still not open here and no flying weather during the last week or so. I very rarely see my bees working the Ivy, so far looks like this year is no exception.

    Maisie's Sale

10,000’s HGV drivers required in Europe also (Germany, Poland etc’). For some, anything negative is Brexit related. Not saying all is well and bright after Brexit, but it’s usually more complex. There was also a strike Acton at the DVLA in Swansea, which no one talks about. Longer term, relying...

    American foulbrood cleaning and control

Do you need to wash this with water? I’ve been using F10, which I can spray and leave on to dry. The one you mentioned above is cheaper.

    Maisie's Sale

How would you pay for the EU Army?

    Maisie's Sale

On going sales. I’m wondering if anyone buy beekeeping equipment (high value items) these days not during a sale. I know I don’t.

    Is this mould?

I’ll have a word with my bees then. Failing that, they’ll be going back to flying school. I only currently have one colony without a landing board, will fix that next year.

    Corfu bees

I have a holiday booked for June next year. I’ll take some time to visit him. Thanks.

    Is this mould?

Each to their own, but… On any given day, but especially on windy days and when there’s a heavy flow on - if I look at two colonies, one with a landing board and one without, it’s very clear the landing board is indeed beneficial. just comparing the no. of bees missing the entrance, ending up...

    Is this mould?

To me, it seems having a landing board is easier for the bees, especially when it’s windy or they come in heavy.

    Harvesting uncapped honey

A bit pointless reply. Not unexpected though.

    Harvesting uncapped honey

I started making mead this year, it’s lovely. In fact, surprised me how nice it tasted and the fact you can still taste the honey itself (even in dry mead).
