Safety of calcium chloride as a honey desiccant - any chemists out there?

This thread is bending my brains too early in the morning. Can we change the subject to beekeeping? Ort is that too mundane?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Always find this thread a problem. Keep losing my apiary in the garden!! Must try harder to do something with it when I get my new specs and hearing aid. Aw hell, why bother - too warm/too wet/too dry. Another day when I have nothing better to do perhaps!! Must stop playing FREECELL so...

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

Similarly stupid. Think my hearing loss was due to having no ear-defenders when I was using my chainsaw quite a lot about 6 years ago. Used to hear mozzies invading me in the dark in bed. Can't even hear her-indoors snore in her adjacent boudoir now!! :D :D

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

They are the ones in the TV prog that I mentioned. Very new design that syncs with mobiles, Pcs etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

Is the weather too mild at the moment to consider oxalic acid treatment

:iagree: but ,but.................................stoopid me, did mine yesterday and found BIAS in one and a very light box in another so gave it a block of fondant. Have always done it NY in the past. Lesson learnt!!

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

Only one ear!! My NHS jobs won't work unless both are interlinked wirelessly through the holes in my head (nothing much in between of course) and being a stoopid old fart am not keen on them if I can avoid them as I wear spectacles too. Was replaced by NHS some 12 months ago with a much newer...

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

Can't see any point. Just get the job done and get out. My son-in-law regularly hands me my NHS hearing aid to emphasize some point he wants to make. Soddin kids are so rude these days!!:p:D:D

What requirements are needed to be an SBI

SBIs that I have known were Master beekeepers too. Lot of studying to get there.

    Happy ...

    Why?

What requirements are needed to be an SBI

I expect they will want you to have several beekeeping exams and a huge cv before they will look at you. No harm in asking I suppose?

Dammit - never got round to anything again.

Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

I suspect that 'raw' milk was the unpasteurised stuff that gave me bovine TB 85 years ago for which I wound up in Gt. Ormand St for a while? No problem since and well past my sell-by date thanks to pasteurisation and the NHS.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Same today as when I didn't do anything in my 2 hive apiary today and every day for the past fortnight. Or maybe longer even?

    Honey testing

Temperature will make it vary to some extent. Don't waste your time.
