What did you do in the Apiary today?

Checked 10 of mine today all bar 1 ok (if a little light for my liking) The problem hive looks to have nosema as there was poo all over the frames. There were about 100 bees still alive in there but I blocked it up anyway to stop it being robbed out.I'm planning on binning the frames and...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Checked 15 of mine for stores and had a very quick peep in a couple so see how they're pregressing as after the next few mild days things look to be cooling off again to . Most ok for stores but a couple a bit light so gave them some feed. The ones I had a look in had pretty good amounts of...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Had a look at mine today ( external only!) all flying very well for the first time this spring and bits of pollen going in 1 or 2. Took 37 into winter and so far they're all still alive and kicking. Starting to panic about how i'm going to manage once they start thinking about swarming in just...

    Candle making

I wanted to make some candles but the molds were so expensive I couldn't justify the outlay. In the end I made dipped candles that came out pretty well and sold very well at the Christmas markets. Lots of vids on youtube.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Went down to my apiary in a small orchard today. They performed pretty pooly last year i'm guessing as they are surrounded by 8 large laylandi and not much light gets through. Anyway went down with a little handheld chainsaw i got off Amazon for £70 hoping to get a couple down before the thing...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Hefted hives at 2 of my apiaries today, most were ok but 3 or 4 were VERY light, looks like the ivy blanked for me this year. Glad I checked as they would probably have starved before Christmas.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Transferred a couple of nuc's in wooden boxes to new poly nucs from the paynes sale for winter. One of them had the original queen and a new Q/virgin on the same frame, there was fresh brood so i left them to it. Very good ivy pollen and nectar flow on which has stimulated the queens to start...

    Worried about fermentation

Unfortunately I don't have any low water honey, I got a dehumidifier today so im very slowly re-filtering the extracted honey near the dry air outlet see if that works.

    Worried about fermentation

The bucket i tested was 19.5 at the top and 18.0 at the bottom, I stirred it and it came out at 18.7. The rest of it (8 supers) is still in the frames so i've got it in a heated room with a fan blowing on it but it doesn't seem to be doing much good.

    Worried about fermentation

How do. I had a strong very late balsam flow this year unfortunately the bees haven't managed to dry it down very well, I have around 100lbs of honey that's coming out in the 18 -->19% h2o range. I have been doing a bit of googling on honey fermentation and it all seems a bit vague with no hard...
