What did you do in the Apiary today?

A split i made 2 weeks ago swarmed today,my fault as i was planning on doing a bailey on it so had a fresh brood box on top of them then they made swarm preps so I used that fresh partly drawn box for the Q+ part but failed to check for eggs . Turns out it had 4 frames of eggs so that's why i'm...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Popped the crownboards to check the progress in the supers on about 10 of mine. Very happy with what I saw, most supers around 80% full (hawthorn and sycamore) and still another 3 days of great weather to go. It's going to be a good spring harvest which is pretty astonishing considering they were...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Very quick check of 14 at the home apiary, I only did them 5 days ago but there were a couple of splits that needed cells thinning out so I thaught I may as well do them all. No new swarming but bees super busy, the empty supers I put on 5 days ago are around 1/2 full already! Added 6 more...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Went to the apiary that was a disaster zone last visit with hungry bees and queens off lay. SO much better today, all queens laying well and they're piling in the nectar, added wet supers last week to stop them starving but some of these are now full so had to add 2nd supers. Only 1 out of 8...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Inspected one I have in a mates garden it was strong last time I ckecked it a week ago so was expecting to see cells today. It's an incredibly strong brood 1/2 and had brood on 20 out of 22 frames but no swarm cells! Last week there was 5lbs of honey over the 2 supers it was up to 35lbs today...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Helped inspect 2 new hives a complete novice local farmer had bought last week. Hive 1 single brood 20+ capped q cells, 2 hatches and saw 1 virgin.Found and clipped and marked the Q and put her in a new box of foundation in original site .Destroyed all cells in original box and moved to side...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Wow what a difference (literally) a day makes, bees on the brink of starvation the last few days but now it's warmed up bees are in a frenzy! Fresh nectar pouring into the hives (mostly hawthorn), queens starting to lay again and will be turning their attention to swarming very soon I suspect...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Inspected 2 of my out Apiaries today. Site 1 (8 hives) One word -DIRE! All very low on stores to the brink of starvation Queens laying in 2 but the other 6 have shut down and a couple didn't even have any sealed brood (but no cells so I think they are Q+) One had decided to swarm even though it...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Lots of reports of hungry bees, mine are the same and some of my Q's have slowed right down laying, there is a trickle of dandelion nectar coming in here which is keeping them going. Saw a utube vid from C Manton a beefarmer whos bees are so hungry they're canibalising the brood,we need some...

    New nucleus

Probably no panic to feed, most nuc's come with a frame or 2 of stores

    Dead and Dormant Bees Outside

My guess would be they're just cold,if they miss the landing board they rest on the ground but can't warm up enough again to fly. Bees returning with pollen being involved suggests it's nothing other to worry about(such as CBPD or nosema)
  17. gregior

    New nucleus

I'd say that's nothing to worry about
