What did you do in the 'workshop' today

I make two hive stands, well more super stands that hold three side by side, I need these as I keep my supers outside with a sealed OMF and a roof when they are not in use. I was lucky to have the wood given to me.

    Smart Weighing and Filling Machine

Has any member here purchased one of these filling machines from Thorne's? Just wanted your thoughts, or has any one seen it in the flesh? https://www.thorne.co.uk/whats-new/whats-new-honey-processing?product_id=4880

    labels

Thank you for pointing out that the image used is not identical, firstly I either trace/draw a vector of almost every image I use (quality reasons), I changed the image to PH requirements.

Just to put this to rest, I am fully licensed to use the FULL Adobe suit of software, and pay a monthly subscription for the privilege. Thank you for you concerns.

    When are the sales?

I have some frames from Bee Equipment, the advert said 'Firsts' and in all fairness they are the best frames I have bought, not a knot in sight, I normally buy seconds from Maisemore or Thorne's and I am more than happy with those as well.

    Jar Gift Boxes

I've had mine from these, don't use the online calculator to calculate postage, give them a ring, I have both the 8oz and 12oz jar boxes (3 jars). https://www.bottlecompanysouth.co.uk/gift-boxes-c-69_73.html

Which heat pad for my warming cabinet?

I've looked on the Thorne's website, their warming cabinet is £220 and their kit to make your own is £360! Just does not make sense! BTW I've made my own.

    Thinking ahead

I found that any backlog in processing honey was without doubt 'uncapping' and 'extracting', look for a decent uncapping system and without doubt go for a 'Tangential' extractor, this cover the options if you have heather honey. Also if you are jarring honey I would definitely go for a hand...

I had to read it twice! I thought it was April 1st...... I know all the legal requirement, perhaps 'Trading Standards' for read them!

    labels

I have been working on a label for 'Pete' and I have to post this, he sent the label to trading standards asking them to check it. This is one of their recommendations: Can you please advise what is the source of the honey? In order to ensure the labelling is not misleading regarding the...

    Jar pointer please?

I moved away from Hex's jars last year, for all the reasons you mention, I have moved to a 300ml Panelled jar, they look so much better than any other jar I have seen.

    Jar pointer please?

I agree, I find that if you buy a bespoke label it speaks volumes, those standard over printed labels are horrid. A major supplier of honey around Wales uses an over printed oval Thorne's one! They look ****** awful.

    Jar pointer please?

Bottle South in Bristol beat Compak price for me: https://www.bottlecompanysouth.co.uk

    Building a National Hive

Agree with the above comments, the major suppliers have sales on right now, buy their seconds. By the time you purchase the materials, plane and dimension the wood, cut the joints and assemble its way more cost effective to purchase them in the sales.

    Honey Mousse

Good to have a Plan B, the first batch I made (not in a creamer) turned out like yours, I blended too fast, the batch a friend did for me in his creamer was spot on.

    Abelo Creamer Settings

I'm sure thats what a friend used when he did mine, for 90 hours.

    Brood Boxes

I move totally to 14x12 years ago, but after rearing my own queens I've now got a few double BB's for 'Cloak Board' queen rearing, have put on and just removed Varroa strips the double BB's were a pain in the bum! I love my 14x12's.

    UK Honey Survey 2017

I can't remember when I sent it now, but I was surprised to see my result.

    UK Honey Survey 2017

I have today received the results of the honey I sent to the National Botanical Gardens in Wales last year, has anyone else received theirs.
