    Heated Settling Tanks

I wrap my tanks with a heater mat (underfloor type) I have a thermostat on it, its ideal for warming honey to settle it. I normally leave it a week before bottling it, I remove the scum a few times during this time and take the final scum off before bottling. I tend to turn it off 24hours before...

Bee poo on house windows and cars

I moved my bees further away from houses two seasons ago, about 100 mts from where they were originally as it was easier for me as they are closer to a lane. This however changed their main flight path! I only live in a very small village and the bees now cover cars with their 'poo', the one's...

    Jar packaging/boxes

Bottle Company South - Anna there is really helpful, I get mine there. Give here a ring as she will sort the postage out, if you order more than one pack online it just keeps adding the postage per item! https://www.bottlecompanysouth.co.uk/gift-boxes-c-0_69_73.html

    Honey Jar Labels ???

Having designed 1000's of labels, I see prices mentioned here, I'm often asked can I produce 200 labels. I use a professional printer, and low quantities are not cost effective. The cost between 1000 and 2000 labels is often as little as £30, depending on size, shape and material.

    Air in honey

I always leave mine settle for at least 7 days, 24hrs is just not long enough to leave honey settle. During the 7 days I remove the 'scum' 3 times, I also do a final removal just before jarring.

    Uncapped heather

I'd check the water content with a refractometer, then if its high, get it in a room with a dehumidifier for a few day to bring the water content down. It's too good a crop to waste. Another unusual characteristic of heather honey is its normally high moisture content, usually associated with...

    Extractor Cleaning

I just close the valve and use a hose, no need for any high pressure washing. Then after its drained I get in there with a towel to dry it off.

    Heather Honey and Screw Press

Any members here process their Heather Honey using a screw press, if so what are your thoughts on how effective it is. Last season I used a hand press and found there was still loads of honey left in the wax.

    Custom sleeves for comb

I have designed a sleeve for the 'Maisemore' containers for a Bee Farmer. The biggest cost is the 'die' needed to stamp out the design. This I now have, I am more than happy to discuss your needs.

    Honey 'churner' - any good?

I have a creaming machine the Konigin one, I always use at least 10% seed, which I keep each year. It's mixed for 7 days, 15 minutes every hour. I don't attempt to make it until September when its started to cool down, it needs 14 days in the jars in a cool place for it to set. I sell it as...

    Dot marking of Queens

I use superglue gel to apply the discs, put some on a piece of card and apply with a cocktail stick. I found the glue that comes with the discs to be all but useless.

    Cleaning Wax from Honey strainers

I would never use boiling water as this melts the wax into the fine strainers, I just use a hosepipe, then wash in warm soapy water.

    Supers weights

I've almost moved all my super frames to Manley, I have to say I'm a convert. So much easier to use and bees seem to love them.
