    Feral colony in tree

Was at a nature reserve place today where the ranger ask me about what could be done to save a colony in a tree. The tree is dead and rotten and has to be felled. There is a large colony about 25 feet up in a hollow in the trunk. Not sure it can be cut down in sections as the trunk may be too...

    Asian Hornets

I found a dead European hornet on my Mum's door step in Egham (Surrey) last week. I wonder how common are these creatures?

    where are the wasps?

We had quite a lot at the end of July/early August but since the huge down pours there numbers are really low. I was wandering if lots of nest were destroyed/severely set back by that.

    The importance of being stung.

Have you got a copy of the full article? I would like to read the whole thing Ed. Just done a Pub Med search of the literature. I can only find a couple of reviews by Muller. Anybody know of any others?

    The importance of being stung.

Interesting and rather worrying thread!! Care must be taken using 'well this happened to me and some other guy up the road so it must be something in it...' types approach to these situations In Mike's anecdote we don't know what would have happened if he was not a beekeeper. Maybe we can...

I hate these type of threads. Do we really need to have these bitching sessions. An interesting post degenerates completely.

    Large varroa load

You are getting off the point. Yes MAQS will not eradicate varroa from every hive throughout the country. Yes MAQS is simply an easy way to administer formic acid. But in the situation the hive is in, described by original post, MAQS should be a simple and effective alternative to thymol.

    Laying worker

Just thought I would give an up date. All brood was drone. Let my friend know and she's back to sort out now but a shake out would seem the best option. Thanks for help.

    Ley-lines and bees

I think she is probably doing a modular course. Students sit modules as they go through the course. Nothing wrong with it in some ways but it does make it easier to get good marks if you only need to revise small parts of the course.

    Ley-lines and bees

Discredit possibly, but that in itself does not make it impossible.

    Ley-lines and bees

So wrong. Many studies have been failed to show any effect. If it really worked then we could slash the NHS drugs bill instantly.

    Laying worker

She as in the beekeeper who 'owns them' (not the queen). When she returns from her holiday she can decide what to do.
