    Money earning bees

Someone asked me yesterday how much money/profit do i hope to earn from my bees. I kinda just went  I have cats, fish, have had hamsters, guinea pigs... None of them earned me anything and i loved them all, now i also have bees. So, getting to the point, as i've not even thought of...

    Maiden flight

My first new swarm caught 3 weeks ago, no activity or sight of queen. Just nectar gathering. Inspected Sunday and they're well away with pollen and larvae feeding. My mentor said to give the new swarm 4 weeks as she's probably a virgin queen. Seems he was right.

    Newbees don't panic!

This really helps! :-) I'm only in my 4th week, and it all seems to be going to perfect and the bees are calm. Nice to know this is normal, and that i can expect it to change next year! I've always been thinking about the swarm thing. My association is full of people, and this one evil man...

My first hive, virgin queen, one egg, no brood.

Ahh ok, thanks! Those were the only two things i could logically think of, nice to know i'm not too thick :-)

My first hive, virgin queen, one egg, no brood.

Hi Peeps! My mentor caught me bees for my first hive. Small swarm that fits accross three national frames both sides. I haven't seen the queen, the bees have been working since 26th April collecting nectar. Pollen every 40th or so bee going in. On looking at them last week, no eggs or brood...

is beekeeping an old mans game?

26, and hoping to bring the scary word of "Modernisation" to our associations training program and ways of working. They'll hate me :-)

    Bad Beekeepers Club book

I don't think it was meant to be a literary masterpiece. I read it on my sleepy holiday on Norfolk Broads and it was a nice light read. Certainly didn't expect it to be a step-by-step book on how to **** up beekeeping. Best thing to do is read a book with no preconceptions and see where it takes...

    Top bar

I intend to try and use/learn as many types of hive as is possible, through getting them myself, or through other beekeepers willing to show me. Then i'll make a decision based on my own feelings and ideas. Each to their own. There's a vicious old git at our association that rubbishes anyone...

    October Swarm

Sorry i didn't explain it fully enough :-) The swarm was actually from an apiary of a member who had gone on holiday and his wife called my mentor that the bees had swarmed, so he was returning the swarm to its rightful owner. The swarm i caught myself outside my neighbours house earlier in...

    October Swarm

Hi, On October the 7th while off work with a terrible cough and cold :puke: , about 5:00p.m i get a call from my friend who was driving home - "There's a man with a bee suit near the mini forest at the top of your road". So i'm a new-in training beekeeper, with no bees or hives till next...

    Dont tell the neighbours

My friend and i are going to put beehives in her garden, the otherside of the fence is the allotment. She has high fences so nobody will see in. They'll all marvel at what wonderful gardeners they are and never know the truth of our little helpers.

And then the British will love it when they come to us for help as they notice our bee colonies going strong :-)

    The Swarm and I

Hi! :seeya: By way of introduction, and because nobody else seems that interested in my excited story, i thought i'd post about my starting experience here. I joined a few days ago. I completed our local BKA basic training in March this year after getting together with a work colleague that...

    Bumble Bees

I'm so glad you've said that Meryl, i've been saying to my parents consitently that there appears to be a lot of bumble bees about but they keep dismissing me!

    Top v bottom bee space

If brother adamn jumped off a cliff... I would just like to insert a mini rant that E-bay sellers of hives don't appear to note whether their hives are BBS or TBS. On asking two different suppliers of the same type of hive, one had bottom and one had top >:-I

Somehow "OSR Honey" doesn't have the same ring to it as "Heather Honey" I like a bit of rape on my toast... :leaving:
