    Label suppliers -

Hmmmm........ Having seen my daughters bedroom floor recently, I am not convinced at the veracity of that statement!

Any recommendations for a good be brush?

Swans don't mind if you pull out one of their wing feathers...if you are quick. Best time is when they are distracted with little goslings!

Ooops! The bees know best afterall

Thanks Jenks! I will try this. If I get a few frames with QC then I will make a split or two and leave a frame with QC in the top box.

Ooops! The bees know best afterall

Push in over emerging brood. She was only left there for 24 hrs No nurse bees which was prehaps the problem, but I thought they would feed her through the cage. They do that with the butler cages when you introduce a queen.

Ooops! The bees know best afterall

I hived a nuc a week or so ago. Inspected on Sunday and three capped queen cells on one frame. Marked queen was on an adjacent frame- she was a purchased queen from a big bee farmer north of the border - so I wanted to keep her! Popped a push in cage over her just to disuade her from leaving and...

    Upstairs Downstairs entrance from BeespaceX

I have thought about trying this. I saw the comment about the internal baffle using up bee space and possibly letting the bees propolise the gap between the frame and the baffle. Anyone had this experience?

    Queen introduction problems

Raided a swarm I collected and have hived for a frame of brood. Push in cage with the queen and a frame of stores in a poly nuc...sealed in!! Not shaken the other hive out yet, will raid some more brood once the queen is accepted and when the bees are a bit stronger will move the existing hive...

    Chewing low-density polystyrene

Hmmmmm.....I was just about to glue some thick aluminium foil to the thin bit on some swienty hives to stop them chewing through....they regularly seem to bore their way to a new entrance. Once I have repaired the wax moth damage that is!

    Queen introduction problems

There's no brood left anymore!!! It has all emerged bar a tiny bit of drone. The poor queen has been caged for ages.. I could pinch some more emerging brood from another colony but loath to weaken them.....also don't want to lose my bought in queen

    Queen introduction problems

Yes, eggs and larvae in the QC None elsewhere which is what is baffling me. If there is a virgin in the hive, why are they continuing to put up cells?

    Queen introduction problems

I have a hive where I am struggling to introduce a queen. They keep putting up queen cells and mobbing the queen cage No other brood or eggs. I have taken them down day after day. Been through the hive multiple times and not seen another queen I am considering introducing a new frame of...

How long is the field beans flow

I have just hived some nucs on a farm where the field beans are just coming into flower. I suspect that it is too late this year to profit from them as they need to build up for a few weeks.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

I nearly hit a real builders barrow last year, lying in the middle of the road in the middle of nowhere...at night painted black. moved it to the side of the road and gone by morning....wish I had taken it with me now!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Hived another swarm today too on another apiary. Big fat very black queen who has been quite prolific. I have been using them to draw comb and to pinch brood from, but she is doing so well I have hived her. Marked another queen from another swarm, she sort of froze after marking her, then came...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Hived a couple of Nucs on a new apiary - a farm with field beans just coming into flower. I pinched a couple of drawn frames and a couple of frames of brood from other nucs to give them a head start. They both have bought in queens from a certain Scottish breeder, so I have high hopes for the...

    End of season splits

I zapped a couple of swarms this morning, before they cap the brood. I lot of grumbling from the bees, but quick and efficient with a gas vap

    Recently arrived swarm in chimney

Yes! Smoke, sparks and flames shooting out of the chimney and slabs of glowing soot falliing into the hearth.... The whole area smothered in thick white smoke.... Any bees would be well advised to move on
