    Starting a bee Hive

How many workers are we talking about? You can buy package bees (3 1/2 lbs of workers with a queen) or a nuc. I went for a nuc as a beginner as you don't get landed with LOADS of bees and a queen that might not be accepted by the workers. Suppliers sell queens with a few workers (around £30) if...

    Swarm during balcony kiss!

Checked on them today.... 3 1/2 frames drawn out. Lots of nectar... no brood or eggs visible. Is this normal? I wonder whether I didn't get the queen...

Used national crown board for a good home. I don't need it as I'm using Langstroths. To collect from Reading, Berks. PM me if you're interested.

    Swarm during balcony kiss!

We were watching the wedding earlier (in HD! :hurray:) when my Dad pointed out that the bees were swarming! They collected under the springs of the trampoline, just opposite the hive (very thankful it was low down). Popped them into a spare brood box and :willy_nilly: I now have two colonies! I...

Mine are flying like a summer day today... I'm a little concerned that they may be robbing other local hives (of which there are many) but I haven't trained them :D

    Positioning of Hive

Thanks everyone... I think I'll get pruning! Plus, I'll contact the woman I'm getting the nuc from to see if she can clip the queen.

    Positioning of Hive

Hi everyone I'm getting a nuc on wednesday but have had second thoughts on where to place the hive. I was going to put it on our flat roof as it would get morning sun and be out of the way. But the flat roof is at the front of the house and so neighbours would see me inspecting the hive. I'm...

    Polish Poly Hives

Anyone bought a hive from these guys? I'm concerned that they may not be high density polystyrene. http://www.lyson.com.pl/lang_en/k440_polystyrene-beehives-and-elements.html 49 euros for a Langstroth is very tempting...
