Pictures of how you paint your mating nucs

Yes, Yes AND YES. I have a lot of hives and apideas in my main apiary and as soon as I painted my Apideas I could see a marked increase in the success rate of getting queens mated and laying. For me, it gives the young queens a very positive identification.

Prying apart paynes nuc and brood extension

sorry, but the boxes are not empty but jammed full of bees and in the photo I was only trying to show the small grip hold that I had to try and prize them apart. I would of had to separate them already in order to take the frames and the bees out , so they would not be stuck together now. I was...

Prying apart paynes nuc and brood extension

thanks. I will have to carry in my pocket is two small pieces of timber to put into the gap and I can then use the hive tool as a leaver without damaging the polystyrene. It wont take much, just a little more power that I have in my finger tips at the moment.

Prying apart paynes nuc and brood extension

There is not an excessive amount of propolis its just there is such a small finger gap to get any leverage and also a bit of arthritis in the fingers. I can feel it started to part I just cant give it the last bit of power. I will come up something.

Prying apart paynes nuc and brood extension

Has anyone an easy way of prying apart the paynes nuc and brood extension without damaging them. I had to give up on a couple this morning as I thought my fingers were going to break.

    ivy varieties

I use about 1/3 ivy to 2/3 oilseed rape to make a beautiful soft set honey. its cuts down on the strong taste of the ivy and puts a bit of flavor to the rape.

    Drone frame.

I found this on an American site and the measurements were taken from wild comb. The average brood comb cell depth was 11 mm for worker cells and 12.5 mm for drone cells. Honey comb cell size was variable with cells of various diameters and depths.

    Drone frame.

Its funny how you ask a question and you get 20 Tyre kickers and only one answer. when i started my bee improvement i started putting in 2 drone frames into my best hives to give me more quality drones. What i found was if you give them a frame to rear drone brood then they are generally...

    Drone frame.

I always insert a drone frame at the start of the summer, but i find that they do damage to the frames either side because the hoffman style frame is a little too narrow. Could someone tell me the correct width for drone cells back to back and a bee space.
