    honey half set in jars

I jarred up some honey a few months ago, which I tried o keep runny, by heating it afterwards in a water bath....very unsuccessfully! I now use an old copper, with heater to warm the water. Can I empty the jars full of two tone honey into a bucket and warm it up in the warming cabinet until all...

    autumn feed sugar ratio

Thanks, I will try to make the syrup like that. Do you not think it would help to wrap anything around the bucket to keep it cosy as well? I'll have a look at the other feeder today and see how we get on with it. Would like to have a little look at the bees before removing apiguard and starting...

    autumn feed sugar ratio

I suppose I shall have to get some new feeders! Does anyone have success with contact feeders? I do have one of the big Miller feeders, which I could rotate. I had a problem when I first used it as there were bees in it, so I left it out for a bit to clear and ended up with hundreds of bees and...

    autumn feed sugar ratio

Do you ever find the sugar crystalises with this method using a contact feeder?I really struggle with my contact feeders, where the sugar syrup seems to set hard, so the bees cannot get at it. I was wondering if I should put something around the bucket to insulate it and perhaps stop it...

how to get bees to clear out brood box.

If I store it wet with uncapped granulated honey in, won't it go a bit manky? I am going to try sulphur strips in storage this year. If I then give it to the bees in spring, underneath will they clear it out and leave it empty, or start laying in it? I suppose tht depends on how early I get it...

how to get bees to clear out brood box.

I'll try that, thankyou. Would it be better to do this on a smaller colony to prevent wildcomb building, and how long do you advise I leave it for? Thanks.

how to get bees to clear out brood box.

I want some nice empty clean drawn brood frames for next year. I have joined a couple of hives together, and removed the brood box. I would like to give the brood box back and try to persuade them to clean it out and not start filling it up again. Are there any tips to encourage this, as I find...

    Wasps around hives.

I haven't noticed any wasps bothering the bees yet, but have seen 2 hornets very close, one of them being rolled about by bees. Unfortunately, it got away. I could have put my foot on it, but I didn't want to squash the bees!

when to move to brood and a half?

Thankyou Enzo, I have put the new super of brood back next door to the brood box, so brood and eggs are not seperated now. Did that 1 week of seperation cause the bees to start queen cells in the top of the hive? I wasn't keen on making a nuc, as I haven't got a nuc box, and I've got too many...

when to move to brood and a half?

I have had a worry with extremely big hive of bees. With a brood box virtually full of brood, I gave them a super full of foundation under the qx. I also don't like brood and a half, but thought it was unavoidable. After 1 week, they had drawn it and filled it full. I put another super of...

    Extracted honey at 21%

Sorry not to be able to help you, as I am in exactly the same situation, anthough I have got my honey in jars. I wouldn't have thought that keeping the lid off would help, and using a dehumidifier, as honey will absorb more water from the air. I did read that you can only sell wet honey, as...
