I make nucs every year with bought in Queens..it is a piece of piddle.. I never use the strong productive hives but the F2 angry colonies (if one or two pop up) they gets used ..a frame of brood or two placed in a poly nuc and a full frame of stores and then filled with drawn frames..loads of...

Now i know why the bees where in the coldest part of the hive instead of the top..a good lesson learned..i paint all my excluders a high visibility light green colour that i can spot from a good distance..that way i will never forget to remove them.

For all the local mongrel bees are fairly gentle the honey making capability is nowhere near as much as the bought in Queens..if i was isolated from any other drones and i knew for certain my open mated Queens where mated from my drones it would be brilliant..sadly this is not the case.
