    NBU/FERA starvation warning

Time bees learned to look after themselves, bleeding scroungers. Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I don't know how people can avoid being stung, they must be incredibly careful and wear a lot of clobber and keep away from their colonies. Not sure whether I'm pragmatic or stoic. Chris

    NBU/FERA starvation warning

It's those little hives you use over there, Finman would have 12 BB by now. Chris

    NBU/FERA starvation warning

Hefted? Starved? Pollen? Give me strength. Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

OSR in flower here now. Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I only fed 7 colonies going into winter, late queens or swarms. I heft by hand, no scales and all the others went into winter at full weight as per usual. My bees have been out and about to some extent or another all winter and all hives were lighter a couple of weeks ago than normal for that...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Logically bees consume more in a mild winter than a cold one due to being more active, mine certainly do. Chris

Strewth, 24°C in the UK already? Chris

    New varroa levels in hive

It's not that my bees don't have varroa mites it's just that I have found the claims to be made about them exaggerated to say the least and I prefer to work with nature rather than against it. It's bad enough being surrounded by these greedy morons.. Chris

    New varroa levels in hive

As most will know I never "treat" in anyway what so ever for the mite or anything else and my bees success speaks for itself... .....equally I suspect I'm not on my own with this, the ferals are doing OK round these parts as well. Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Bees have been going mental here for the last week, never seen anything like it at this time of year. I was concerned that the winter had been to mild, virtually no cold at all but very wet, however it seems that everything is hunky dory with perhaps only one iffy/weak colony. Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Or totally don't give a toss if you have a life full of other things? Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

All "managed" hives active, all taking pollen, means nothing, sting to face, wild plum and goat willow starting to flower. Checked local feral colonies - all active as above. Interesting winter. Chris

    Finman

Don't be disgusting, I don't want to catch anything thank you, mais j'ai beaucoup d'amis français wot parle englise. Chris

    Finman

Your "signature" is in danger of getting longer than your posts. As for learning another language, if you are lucky enough to have English as your first language you don't really need any others. Even the French are catching on at last. Chris

    Force bees to abscond?

I'll have to find a bit of time to put in a form that is clearly understandable. Chris
  18. Chris Luck

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Strange world, no wasps or hornets here for a month and bees generally staying at home apart from perhaps an hour in the afternoon if the sun shines. Chris

The extra dangers involved with French Beekeeping

I have had the pleasure of being the recipient of a load of bird shot here on my own land as a present from a French hunter who didn't look where they were shooting and then told me I shouldn't be there. Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I guess stopping Queen breeding may make sense when they pass through on migration if you were on a "stop over" like Cyprus. Chris
