    Honey rather than sugar

I'll repeat this for the OP as it's being drowned out with drivel, sadly much the norm on here a lot of the time. Haven't read all the posts BUT of course it's OK to leave supers with honey on your hives overwinter if that's what you have to do or indeed if that's what you would prefer to do -...

    Wax moth

We get anywhere between -10C and -20C here in winter and I leave the OMF open with no problems... ....and a wax moth caterpillar on the board should be a good sign, it means the bees are doing what they should be doing and ejecting them. Chris

    Honey rather than sugar

The usual tosh and drivel that has nothing to do with anything, certainly nothing to do with the OP question. Oh, and you forgot to mention that bees don't live in Finland naturally, may have a bearing on your attitude. Chris

    Wasps

I'll let you think about that comment and figure out the flaw in it - it's quite obvious. Chris

    Honey rather than sugar

Haven't read all the posts BUT of course it's OK to leave supers with honey on your hives overwinter if that's what you have to do or indeed if that's what you would prefer to do - it's no more and no less than they would do in a natural environment assuming your bees are where they would...

    Wasps

Good morning. Well I like all creatures including the "wasp" family, never have any problems with them and I'm pleased when I see them nesting on my land. This years been terrible for them, I have very few of the smaller wasp types, only one colony of vulgaris and only one Vespa crabro which...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I would have said she should be laying at this time of year and strangely they don't run out of room or they shouldn't because they know what they are doing at this time of year and will be back filling. Just because it warms up doesn't mean they think it's spring. Chris

    mouse gaurd

I have both solid and OMF floors but either way my entrances are either fully open from side to side or with guards in and the hives with OMF have the OMF clear all year. The guards go on as I take the supers of, saves me forgetting to do it and does no harm. This time of year I start to...

    Haven't got stung this year

Perhaps sometimes it is connected to what you do with bees? I do a fair bit of........ Chris

    Haven't got stung this year

Ahhh, sadly all dead now looking like withered trifids with their dried heads hanging down. Didn't really have the best of weather for them again this year, still it's in the past now and the ivy is on to top up winter stores and raise the winter bees. Chris

    mouse gaurd

Mine are all on now the supers are of and I never use reducers anyway. Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Spinning and potting, spinning and potting, spinning and potting............still, the weathers crap and at least I have some honey if a very, very much reduced yield......what a **** year here in south west France, worst I've ever known. Chris

    ph of syrup

I couldn't be bothered / too busy to read all the posts on this thread BUT to answer the original question I add one tablespoon of organic cider vinegar per litre of syrup which I have mentioned before... ....however everything I do is wacky and all my bees are dead.:biggrinjester: Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Sidetracked into a garden center in Poitiers on Thursday I was struck by a smallish shrub with lovely blue flowers covered in bees, honey and bumble and always looking for late summer early autumn flowering plants for bees I gave in and bought some....I don't think I'm going to be disappointed...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I would expect brood rearing to continue until at least November and beyond to some extent in the UK. Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Strong colonies don't get robbed in my experience, only weak or failing colonies. Most likely took the stores down stairs although even that would be a bit unlikely if they were capped, emptying a full super is a lot of work. Chris

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Getting in the supers - tedious job.. .....be extracting the honey after that.... .....then soon will be able to forget about them until spring. Chris
