    Sky high honey

I'm surprised there's no linear accelerator been for sale on Ebay, can get most things on there! Buyer to collect and dismantle? :p

    Advice Please

I've been finding and marking the queens the last few days on my first inspection of the tear, yesterday I searched in vain in the brood box for her, got to the second to last frame, still nothing, then out of the corner of my eye, I could see her running away from me on the other side of the...

    2017 Beekeepers Suit Recommendations

I second that, BBWear is awesome, worth every penny! I bought some cheap all-in-one suits from T**rnes, which were not very good, the bees always found a way in. Your association should enquire about a discount with BBWear directly, my local club gets one. Hope this helps :)

    Really long term keeping honey

Why do we overcomplicate things?! If it's for private consumption, who cares, as long as it isn't toxic or otherwise dangerous to health. No wonder the rest of the world thinks we're eccentric.

    Oxalic theft

I once read about a GP who had a big bottle clearly marked "MORPHINE" in his doctor's bag, which was actually filled with laxatives, in case it was stolen for the second time :)

    A bad day

Apiguard causes the queen to go off the lay, so it would be a very bad idea at this time of year!

    Words fail me ...

I do hope that's an ill timed April Fool, my dog wouldn't micturate, defecate or have intercourse next to it! Makes a mockery of everything we stand for!

    Beekeeping Suits

Make sure that the gloves/gauntlets go over the sleeves with no skin or gaps where the bees can crawl in. Likewise make sure that the veil is away from your face and trousers are tucked into wellies (NOT shoes/boots). Lastly ensure that all zips are done up fully and covered with velcro where...

    Big business in California....

Would beekeepers consider using Smart Water to tag their equipment (not the bees obviously)? http://www.smartwater.com

    Beekeeping Suits

I had no hesitation in getting a BBWear suit with the fencing style hood, after putting up with bees finding their way into Thornes all-in-one white flimsy occasional suits, which are okay for exactly what they say, occasional use or cutting grass around the hives! I've skipped changing from...

    Deep Brood Box or Not?

I'm a relative beginner, having started 3 years ago with a 5 frame nucleus bought commercially. I'm now at 4 colonies (all on brood and a half or double brood). These will be altered so that they are all on double brood in April, to split to create 8 hives. The advantage of using DN4 frames is...

    Beekeeping Suits

BBWear is the dog's balls as far as I'm concerned, I did grudge spending so much on a bee suit but it's really comfortable and hard wearing, can't recommend them highly enough. A tip I'd like to pass on from one of the mentors in my local club is to wear a baseball cap to prevent the bees from...

    Frames

Still a damn sight cheaper than first quality, which I would never buy, just can't afford them, irrespective of me being a student or not, I hate paying more for something when it's cheaper elsewhere (am not tight or a skinflint, just frugal).

Yes good advice, thanks - it wouldn't do justice to either.

    Bees out of hive

    Matt black would be best

    Oxalic - probably a silly question . . .

:iagree: There's far too much alarmist hype sometimes.

    Oxalic - probably a silly question . . .

Alcohol abuse affects the liver a lot more than it affects the kidneys, causing cirrhosis. The liver can regenerate and repair itself, but only up to a point before the damage is irreversible. A liver that's been donated can be cut into different parts, with each part given to a separate...

    Bee farming advice wanted

This is really interesting, thanks - I haven't got the time to get involved in queen rearing right now but it's something I would like to look into for my own use.
