Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

Pretty sure they will respond in the same way to any complaint, just that beekeepers seem to spend more energy and time infighting and reporting each other than the public do complaining about the use of the word raw on supermarket honey. TSO probably have better things to harass than...

Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

Not sure they are impotent, they have the regulations and 2017 guidelines so they have the "tools" they need. I guess the possible varied response is largely dependent on local resources and priorities. Certainly the TSO I spoke to yesterday said they will investigate complaints and take action...

Poll: Should it be legal to use the word "Raw" on labels to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey

Local and honey are both more enforceable. Local would be at the judgement of the TSO if it is reasonable to call it local in that region. Obviously a blend of EU and non EU if labelled local would be misleading. Less clear is if I sold my Lincolnshire honey as local on a farmers market in...

Poll: Should it be legal to use the word "Raw" on labels to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey

Dont think we can blame Brexit quibbles. There is no doubt surrounding the retained regulations that have been used to prevent the application of the term Raw with regards to honey, it is more to do with allocation of resources. I spoke to a TSO colleague yesterday regarding it in the area I...

Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

Is the local one definitely not produced in what could reasonably be considered a local area to the store it is sold in and claiming to be so? If so that would be a very straightforward matter for TS to deal with and probably should be reported. However if it is the brand name "the local...

Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

Good spot. Yes you (and others) could complain it makes the same claims as BMH did so could be interpreted by TS to breach the same regulations. If you raise it as a complaint to you local TS they will most likely pass it to the council with the primary authority relationship with sainsbury's...

Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

I can't say I have noticed Raw honey in a supermarket but have not looked that hard. If there was and someone complained then TS would have to investigate it and depending on their interpretation of the 2011 regs could take the same action they took against BMH (issue of a notice or informal...

Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

Does anyone know if this issue has been tested in the courts? It's my understanding that at national level the Trading standards discussed raw honey in 2017 and the outcome was that the term was likely to infringe food info for consumers regs and that this was the basis for their enforcement...

Poll: Should it be legal to use the word "Raw" on labels to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey

A campaign promoting UK honey would be great but who is going to fund it? BBKA? BFA? If it was a successful campaign could domestic honey production meet increased demand or would prices just go up and production stay the same? I have just been in a "whole food" shop that suggest by its name...

Poll: Should it be legal to use the word "Raw" on labels to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey

As most will sell their honey face to face or in local shops the honey sells its self without needing the Raw tag. But if you are relying on internet sales you need the traffic and if raw is a widely used search term then I can see why some who sell on internet may want to use it. Personally I...

    Honey dehumidifiers/driers

Looked at the ones abelo offer but do not have the need to justify the lay out. Try to let the bees do the hard work regarding moisture % so dont get too many issues and if a batch is borderline i warm in appimelter and use domestic dehumidifier to lower humidity in honey room. Look good bits of...

    Cadburys what a disappointment

McD's 1/4 pounder is still going strong. As it's the Double 1/4 pounder. Guess calling it 1/2 pounder would be too confusing. Pulp fiction raises more questions than it answers. What is in the brief case ?

    Cadburys what a disappointment

What about a 1/3 pounder for the same price.... "More than half of the participants in the Yankelovich focus groups questioned the price of our burger. "Why," they asked, "should we pay the same amount for a third of a pound of meat as we do for a quarter-pound of meat at McDonald's? You're...

    Cleaning honey extractors

A good thorough wash with water is probably sufficient I just dont think a spray and wipe before putting away does any harm. As I use a pressure washer for the initial blast of getting the honey out it also gives me peace of mind as the pressure washer is used for general pressure washer tasks...

    Cleaning honey extractors

Not really. They mean its clean before its stored. So not likely to get the issues of build up of mould etc that can occur in stored equipment. But if you feel you dont need to then dont bother.
