    Jar of honey packaging

Most of the legislation and regulations date from the 1990s to early 2000s so the interweb was not a massive thing (certainly not for small scale food sellers) or i suspect given much consideration in the drafting of the legislation/regs. Hence it falling on the individual authority or officer...

    Jar of honey packaging

In the UK (England specifically because that is where I have worked and whose regulations I am most familiar with) it varies from authority to authority and is not hive dependant. I know of large-scale bee farmers who are exempt because they do not jar honey and just sell in barrels and...

    Jar of honey packaging

There is no definition of 'local' in the regulations, it is up to the individual authority/eho to decide. The artisan exemption for registering as a food business is meant to cover farm gate sales and popping a few jars in a local shop. I would expect most if not all uk councils would expect...

    Desperately seeking help!

We can debate this endlessly on here and make various assumptions but it comes down to the OP either deciding to live with it in the interests of neighbourly relations or deciding it is a nuisance and impacting on their enjoyment of their garden and contacting the Env Health dept. They will...

    Desperately seeking help!

Not sure the Bee inspector would be remotely interested and does not have the statutory framework (they deal with be health and the legislation around that not neighbour disputes), likewise what is the local BKA going to do? If it is a genuine nuisance (in the legal sense i.e "unreasonably and...

    Varroa Mesh

I see exactly the same. Went through 40 colonies on Tuesday with mix of floors (and boxes). All the most advanced ones on solid floors ( top 10) and most of the least advanced on mesh. Makes more of a difference than poly/wood box I think. That said in a few weeks I doubt it will be noticeable...

Equipment Wanted Hain or Sjolis heather Loosener Wanted

From what I have seen the cells are damaged but the bees sort it out in no time. A lot lest destructive than cutting out or or scraping back to mid rib which is the alternative.

Managed Honey Bees compete with Wild Bees for Floral Resources

If I recall correctly the author of that maintains hives on top of Nados roofs in london to improve nandos eco credentials ( as it obviously off sets the intensive poultry rearing) and was running beginers beekeeping courses. I think it is very much habitat and area dependent and drawing...

    Labelling regulations

Yes Honey regs are just for honey and not food containing honey. Put somthing else in the jar and you need to comply with the information to the consumer regs

Honey For Sale Honey for Sale

Honey is worth what the market will pay for it and in bulk £3.50 a lb is around the going rate for standard spring/ summer honey in buckets and barrels. Plenty of commercial beekeepers operate thier business on bulk sales at that price, dealing in large volumes it is not always possible to...
