    INSTANT VAP

I bought an Instantvap in January this year to replace my Gasvap, and I have to report that I also find it absolutely fantastic to use, really well designed and made, quick and easy to use and feels like it's going to last a while.......time will obviously tell on this point! I did have a...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

This is the stuff I use too, it's very good and inexpensive compared to most. Order over £25 and the carriage is free....they also have over 500 shops.......and no I don't work for them!🤣

Using standard Supers with Abelo 12 frame poly (top bee space)

The rebate in the two side rails needs to be deeper too, allowing the frames to sit lower

Will a smallish colony still expand at this time of year?

Or maybe a tapered batten fixed around the floor or hive stand, thin end pointing skyward so as to 'wedge' the cosy on when lowered down? Of course this would be totally dependant on the length of your cosy, as you really wouldn't want to fit anything to your boxes...just a thought:)

Will a smallish colony still expand at this time of year?

Hmm I don't think I'd get away with that! Had a look at Vino Farm last night.....That thing is mammoth.....The outer cedar looks almost bulletproof!! I get his thinking but how on earth would you do any 'box juggling' like, for example a Demaree? I agree with you, a long type of hive would be...

Will a smallish colony still expand at this time of year?

Thank you A new one on me! I'll look him up later when OH has gone to bed....There's only so much bee chat she can take😁

Will a smallish colony still expand at this time of year?

looks fantastic, I don't think it will be worthless, just significantly reduced in effectiveness, and yes due to the open gap. Air itself is a good insulator, providing you can stop it moving away. It will however as you say stop the wind and rain hitting the hive walls and sapping away the...

Will a smallish colony still expand at this time of year?

I know what you mean about the increase in number of hives, I've gone from four to ten this year with the obvious increase in work, storage etc. Roof insulation is the most important as you suggest. h How do you feed, do you just list off the entire sleeve?

Will a smallish colony still expand at this time of year?

I used home made cosies on unpainted pine boxes last winter with great results. just like you I had one small colony I was going to polynuc as I had serious doubts as to their ability to survive in a 14 x 12 box. I took the decision after researching posts on this forum to make some cosies...

    Vevor extractors

Hi Nick I've been looking at buying one of these as my first extractor and would like to ask a question to somebody who owns one, before I buy. The spec on the website ( unless I'm reading it incorrectly! ) seems to suggest that the extractor will accommodate 14 x 12 frames. Do you think that...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Thanks for that Ben, I was hoping he might have a Startritre bandsaw too, the one I use is well and truly abused and needs replacing...the search goes on! Still be interested to see what's up for sale though.

Crickey, not sure what happened there, but obviously I've done something wrong....must have got a bit trigger happy on the select thumbnail section!!

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Finally got round to joining some reclaimed pallet boards to make some 14 x 12 brood boxes which is a bit of a PITA but goes along with my endeavour to make all of my kit from recycled/waste timber. 3 of my nuc's are double boxes that really need putting into proper hives if only to free up...

These are brilliant table saws..properly made and very solid, your brother in law obviously has an eye on quality:) This looks like a Ta 275 which will cut 100mm @ 90 degrees. I've had mine for over 20 years after buying it from a cabinet maker friend, and it's still going strong! Do you know...
