    What am I missing?

I haven’t looked at the entire website, but I did notice that the supers are only €19 !! Mark

    Cheaper fondant

That only works for 1Kg......each box of fondant will cost multiples of that, so even including the discount for buying multiples it works out pretty expensive on eBay. 14 boxes from eBay all in at £294.42 14 boxes from bfp-express all in at £200.50 in fact the price is better from bfp-express...

    Table saw etc recommendations

You won't go far wrong with Startrite kit if you're looking for well made second hand equipment. Their 352 bandsaw is renowned as being 'the standard' of the time, the table saws are excellent...I would go for the larger TA275 which takes a 300mm blade, and they make good planer thicknessers...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Thought I'd better also finish off the 400 plus top bars which have been sitting in boxes in 'blank' form, blocking the workshop. Fortunately I've made most of the side bars, just weighing up the virtues of a single piece bottom bar as depicted on the Dave Cushman site and also used by Denrosa...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Finally got round to finishing the components for my next batch of recycled timber supers...no real rush to assemble them, as I truly 'missed the boat' for this season!

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

As dicussed already James, you're absolutely correct that Hoffman frames are all identical- well the UK ones are....or should be! I have been making my own frames and the bevel is a total pain to make and I think completely un-neccessary. Interestingly, if you opt to buy the Denrosa (possibly...

Cheer Steve.....The condition set to allow me to keep an apiary in the garden is that "It's not shabby"😇.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Finished off a batch of deep insulated pallet wood roofs and some of the 20 under floor entrances I've recently made from old pallet racking slats and reclaimed plywood.

    Affordable prewired assembled frames?

I bought all the 14x12 frames Murray had at the Telford beekeeping show, they were wired 50% horizontal 50% vertical. When I queried this, I was told you can specify wires either way….this will obviously depend on what they have in stock at the time of order placement…… whatever you want if pre-...

And there but for the grace of god go I (and probably quite a few others!) A salutary reminder to us all to take care and never let your guard down (pardon the pun!) when using power tools. I wish you a speedy recovery, and hope you're back to full operation speedily.......I had a bad kickback...

    Using reclaimed wood

Having re-read my post, I think I should qualify 'perfectly safe' as being no worse than the smoke from cardboard, egg cartons (often printed or dyed), grass, leaves or any other 'favourite' smoker fuel, which probably contains all manner of combustion nasties also:(

    Using reclaimed wood

No glue needed, they're made in the same way as sawdust briquettes and pellets, completely different process to making chipboard panels. Very high pressure releases the natural Lignin in the wood which "glues' the saw dust together. Perfectly safe:)

Hi James, 40mm PIR is not an unusual thickness, surely your local Travis Perkins or the like can supply you……glueing sheets together sounds a right faff😝

    Jig Plans

This is my jig, pretty much a variation on the others shown, I make all my boxes, ekes and boards on it….I air staple the boards and ekes and it holds them securely during this process. I’ve included a centre hold down to ensure the corners don’t lift during assembly. There’s a nuc jig set up on...

    Gasvap alternative

I bought the complete kit with the blow lamp included, just to ensure compatibility. Fuelled it using gas lighter re-fill aerosol.

    Gasvap alternative

I gave up with my gasvap for the same reasons, I was constantly fiddling with it, trying to get the temperature right, but with no certainty…..gave up when it overheated in a moment of less vigilance and de-soldered itself🤦🏻‍♂️😂. I bought an Instavap last year and in my estimation it is a game...

    extractor recommendation /advice

Motor for that extractor is £210, extractor £440 making the total £650.....electric version £690, I don't get the pricing but hey ho, I get the manual kit free! Model you've chosen looks good too.

    extractor recommendation /advice

I run 14 x 12's and use the Demaree method of swarm control, so saw a need to be able to extract those frames, and last year bought this : https://www.abelo.co.uk/shop/extractors/manual-6-frame-tangential/ It does exactly what I want and has the additional bonus of being upgradeable to electric...

    One handed queen catcher

I've carelessly garrotted a queen using a one handed queen catcher:banghead:.........I do however, with this experience in mind still use one VERY carefully as I find it brilliant for clipping queens. I really don't trust myself handling them yet, with my clumsy fingers and find with care you...
