    Thoughts? What’s Happened Here?

I'm going to go up tomorrow and vape them, and also feed them some thymolated syrup to help boost them. Would you vape them at 5-day intervals or just once? Also, as I mentioned they are in a double nuc, would you leave it like that or reduce to single?

    Thoughts? What’s Happened Here?

They are currently in a double poly nuc, I left the top one on as there are stores in it. They are currently in a double nuc so should have plenty space, at the moment (considering putting them just in single nuc) The queen is still in there (see pic 1) End of July, a smallish swarm, queen...

    Thoughts? What’s Happened Here?

Thank you. They had built up a bit to 4.5 frames (from july) but struggled with chalk brood, one was really bad so I united them to give them some chance. Probably not a good outlook for them then, which I suspected from the dwindling numbers.

    Thoughts? What’s Happened Here?

I’ve just treated with Apivar, i’d have hoped that would have knocked most mites back. They do also have a chalkbrood problem. It was the multiple eggs in the bottom of the cells which made me wonder if there was a new queen in there?

    Thoughts? What’s Happened Here?

On removing treatment from a hive the other day I spotted some drones so had a quick look to see what the situation was. Bit of background: Originally 2 sister queens in 3 frames nucs. Both had bad chalk brood, one really bad and struggled to build up. Combined the two hives at start of...

    Honey with added CBD

I know it’s out there that’s why I said it’s not really supposed to be called honey (legally) if it has additives. I guess it’s not that heavily regulated.

    Honey with added CBD

    Not sure you can….

    Honey with added CBD

I thought you couldn’t sell something as honey if it was mixed with other substances (legally), and just to be pernickety, the weight is not displayed correctly on the label.

    Show stand...any tips?

Our association bought in bulk which meant 12oz hex jars worked out at about 36p each. Worth looking into.

Amm / Native Black Bee Discussion

It appears that you have decided to castigate me as my beekeeping practice doesn’t align with yours (mine and many others) by creating ‘killer bees’, maybe you are just looking for an excuse for an argument today or have had a bad day in general? I thought this blog was about keeping AMM’s...

Amm / Native Black Bee Discussion

Thank you! It’s hard to say, of the beekeepers I know they keep mainly dark bees but only a small percentage will be members of the local associations. My local association, although small, is hoping to run an isolated mating apiary next year and have AMM or local strains. I have 3 apiary...

Amm / Native Black Bee Discussion

I’ve spent some time changing queens in my apiary this year, I was being chased from the apiary most days and not really enjoying my time with them so have requeened with AMM queens from different sources. I am hoping that going forward to let the bees raise their own but needed a change in...

    Normal waggle?

Does look like CBPV symptoms but there will be other signs, piles of dead and dying bees on bottom board or outside the hive. They can recover but not sure how easily this time of year. There is a really thorough thread on the forum on how to combat CBPV.
