What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Most of my floors are under floor entrances but good point!

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Why would they burrow into it if they don’t do that with the poly hive? Not doubting your theory just wondering why? i’ve also got a follower board against it…

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Been making up new boxes and frames as i’m planning on moving all my equipment to nationals in the spring. Currently a mix of commercial and national. I am going to try double brood but dummied down as the full boxes will probably be too heavy for me, even though i’ve started weight training...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Mine only cost about £5, works great, bit easier than pressing your ear against the hive, easy to locate where the cluster is too (although not really necessary, just interesting)

    Honey Jar Labels ???

I agree, but the flexibility of printing my own, having just discovered much of the remainder of my heather blend honey has crystallised, i’ve now got the option to change it to soft set on the label if I need to go down that route.

    Honey Jar Labels ???

After much thought and research, I invested in a good thermal printer this year, I needed it for postage labels anyway, but it’s ideal for printing your own honey labels. I enjoy designing anyway and I have complete flexibility to change details on the labels, such as type of honey, lot/dates...

    Making soft set seed

Thank you, i’ll give that a go, this is the first time i’ll have to deal with oilseed **** and it’s only a field or two away from my home apiary.

    Making soft set seed

I I’m interested in doing this, looking ahead to next year as there is an oilseed **** field v nearby. But I have questions… 1. How much to grind for a 1lb jar? 2. Does this need adding to the jar by heating etc as you would a large bucket? 3. Will any crystallised honey work? Thanks

Aims and objectives for 23 season

I’m also not too sure what you mean, do you mean many swarms have AFB?, hence the big fire?

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

My only concern would be the bees clogging the small exit space on the chute, if there is large scale death and dying and from previous experience it can happen quickly, I would maybe make the exit a little bigger. Hopefully you won’t have to use it.

    Crystalised heather honey

It’s not like soft set, has a grittiness. personally I don’t mind it but i’m not sure what customers will make of it.

    Crystalised heather honey

Bumping this thread as i’ve got a heather blend (same consistency of heather), all jarred but realised that it had crystallised a little, would I just heat the jars to 40°c to de-crystallise? I don’t have a warming cabinet but could do in the oven maybe? I’m supposed to be dropping it off to a...

    Who makes their own foundation?

I was going to try his method this year but ended up using all my cappings wax for candles and furniture polish but seems easy enough, hopefully try next year. Have you tried his method? I like the idea of using your own wax for foundation, you know what has been used in the hive in the form...

it’s gone, my daughter opened the fridge this morning and I smelled it two rooms away, hope I don’t have to replace the fridge 😬

    The ghost of Christmas present

I have a cheese like that in my fridge currently from our selection this year. It’s a scottish brie, aptly called ‘Minger’, it’s going to have to leave the house tomorrow!
