    Danger of honey adulteration

it’s the Ben Harden method he was describing so a fairly easy method for small scale beekeepers.

    Government Response to Petition

There is an episode of Rotten on Netflix (I think), called Lawyers, Guns and Honey and looks at honey adulteration in the US mainly but looks at the lab testing done in Germany and how they are keeping up with trying to identify fake honey. Also the lengths fake producers go to in order to get...

Recommendations for sourcing food grade essential oils?

you could try a company called Aromantic, they sell for cosmetic use so would imagine they would have the right thing, their oils are really superior to some others. There are some legal requirements or hoops you need to jump through if you plan on selling them (or even giving them away) though...

    BBKA magazine recommending open feeding?

What awful advice, I'm not a BBKA member but if I were I'd probably question this.

    Honey Jar Labels ???

I’ve found it depends on quality. Yes over time it may fade but the honey would probably be long gone by the time that happens.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

I’ve already got more on order. I ordered two types originally to try, one is not great but the other is really sticky and strong, The bees will have to really be determined to get through it!

    Equipment sales

They seem v dense, solid and well made. I will be putting most of my bees into these so will need to wait till after next winter to find out how they perform. They will fit 12 frames.

    Equipment sales

I didn't realise they did poly nucs, are you sure it's the same company? https://www.beehivesupplies.co.uk/

    Equipment sales

I've bought some hives from a company called Bee Hive Supplies, their poly is the best value on the market at the moment that I can find. It's the same footprint as Maisemore so completely interchangeable, I like their floors as well and the roof is a huge chunk of poly. They are incredibly...

That’s what I use with butane gas. It can get too hot though if too high.

What's flowering as forage in your area

I keep a diary which I only record bee things in and weather/forage etc. This is only the third year but interestingly the last two years the Gorse started flowering a week ago here and my Hazel tree was in full bloom by now, this year no sign of either yet and the weather has been fairly similar.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Very much depends on your bees, i’ve had bees come out at 6°C, some won’t show till 10°C, just listen to the bees through the side of the hive, press your ear gently against the side or get a cheap stethoscope to help reassure yourself.
