What's the dumbest question you've ever been asked?

One of the most frequent i get is " i have a swarm in my chimney, they only went in last month, , can you come down and collect it?" and were only 100 kilometres away. Just as was said by B+, the untouched really dont have any idea whatsoever and obviously :rolleyes:were all blessed with the...

How would you deal with this swarm?

whenever i collect a swarm, i tend to brush or shake in the majority in and then the rest follow. Some initial flying, then if no fanning try again. No matter what you do, unless you vacuum them straight up, which in this case may be the best option for speed, then otherwise you will get lots...

Sterilised brood box with blowtorch - do scorch marks matter?

Ive seen trees with trunks burnt, then next year a swarm goes in. Absolutely no problem when i really scotch my hives. Never an issue. You can put bees in most things. They usually dont mind!

    Buying some new queens

You have to remember that buying one or two single queens is not necessarily a true reflection of that breeders queens. You need to be buying queens over several years and assess their performance. I would hope no one in their right mind would be finger pointing unless they had several of said...

    French honey price

In bulk we get 7.50 euros per Kilo for good chestnut/bramble. Prices have thankfully gone up over the last 3 years. The problem isn’t selling it, it’s getting enough of it in the first place!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    French honey price

It’s priced right, french honey is better than any other honey in the world EVER!![emoji23][emoji849][emoji95][emoji1305][emoji6][emoji38] Seriously if there is a market then go for it I say. I sell a 500 g pot for 8 euros here but it might well have been high level acacia. In that respect...

    Bee farmers ahoy ;)

Now I know where your talking about! Total nonsense talked!! Pulling brood from a colony that’s desperately trying to change bees and produce nurse bees, then wax builders and new foragers, only just to kill them! Complete madness! Beyond sensible logic! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Crown boards, wooden and poly hives

ive spent some considerable time pondering this very question I watched the video too. When i first started beekeeping i had all my hives with wooden crown boards and nothing else above , no other insulation and they overwintered fine(or what i thought was fine at the time) with our Nicot bases...

Good You Tube Channels to subscribe to

A very interesting one to watch is Ian Steppler. A farmer and successful commercial beekeeper. I find it brilliant to constantly see both sides of an argument from the same person. Hes the farmer we might have issues with and the beekeeper trying to deal with those issues! Great daily/weekly...

    Osr

Previous quote "Osr is very important source of honey, but surely that time the village has many other honey plants. When I have kept my hives on limitless **** fields, bees have in genes that they must get many other frowers af same time. They fly long distances to find other flower sources...

    Dividing board with foil

Think Derekm may be spot on with the aluminium qualities, but for me i dont use it as this, its as i described for how i use it, so not rubbishing Derekm's always spot on advice.

    Dividing board with foil

Completely agree, these are nothing new and also only help isolate an area. We use these all the time, certainly don’t insulate the insulation! I wouldn't say the aluminium really reflects the heat back in makes it nice and shiny though lol The styrofoam is insulation itself. Derekm will...

I agree, We've had not day of cold easterlies this year, i dont mind the cold, having to work outside a lot over the winter, i positively adore it. Its so much more pleasant when its cold and dry. Bees will be fine too. It may even hold over the OSR a little and rebalance things before the...
