    Winter preparation

Do you leave that one super on while you treat for varroa (assuming you treat...) ? Any issues with reusing the super next season in that case?

    Combined hives.... What now?

You keep them in the freezer for the year? Or 48hours then store them away?

    End of flow signs/actions

Bearing in mind this is 1st season… when main flow ends will the bees start tucking into the supers? What are the key signs to look for? And should boxes (or individual frames) be removed to avoid this?

    A way to combat CBPV?

Would that not lead them to want to clear deadfall beneath the hive as they are constantly passing it by? Or is the 12-18" sufficient that they may ignore? I'm undergoing this method at the moment and have a 2cm hole in the eke as well as an empty brood beneath the nest. Activity from both the...

    A way to combat CBPV?

“I don't think enclosing the whole thing off down to the floor level is a particularly good idea as the bees may just consider tidying it up” I was going to ask on this as I have enclosed all the way down and found bees boiling out the bottom when tried to check deadfall. Could have been not...

What's flowering as forage in your area

Experienced what I think was waft of lime when I checked supers - amazing. So I guess Limes are producing.

    Some advice please - cbpv?

Will try the super then leave them be for a while. I imagine it is ok to remove capped frames/supers.

    Some advice please - cbpv?

Thanks for the update. Having moved quickly to provide a no-floor option I'm scratching head as to how to clear dead/sick bees from underneath (wishig i'd thought to integrate a removable floor). Opening the panels to sweep brings a rush of bees out. Perhaps I need to make the area underneath...

    How to add more frames...

Do you not find they draw drone foundation and the queen ends up laying loads of drones rather than workers?

    How to add more frames...

    Drawn frames I guess ?

    Some advice please - cbpv?

Great thanks, Is it safe to assume any live/mobile bees on the floor when coming to clean out are infected/on their way out and can be swept up and disposed off ? And i imagine you determined by amount of deadfall and maybe checking for odd behaviour when they were through the problem?

    Some advice please - cbpv?

John, Do you mean sweep up and remove dead bees from under the floor-less stand regularly over those 10 days?

    Some advice please - cbpv?

Was up late jury-rigging a national stand as an open floor stand and just been out to re-assemble. I've attached images of what it looks like, but as I said they are wbc boxes which I hope will be ok through most weather. Also took a shot of the screen floor immediately after removing BBox which...

    Some advice please - cbpv?

Another small complication - this is a wbc hive. With this stand experiment I'm going to have to leave them without the lifts over the boxes. They'll be access proof against robbing/wasps and weather warm enough to be ok is my thinking. Should be ok right?

Thanks Dani, JBM Will be trying the open floor stand today. Is it likely the queen has died as well ? Will have a look for her but would be good to know what to expect. As for the stores/supers what do you suggest doing? They are heavy boxes but not capped. Thanks

    Some advice please - cbpv?

Video attached via link. Hope it works. Edited link : Video Topbar video Really do think it is cbpv. At about 1:15mins quite an obvious bee with a tremor. Dead fall in front of hive was much reduced today but also spotted quite a dark trembling bee on the ground in front of hive. Would welcome...

No. Relatively clear. But will check again.

    Some advice please - cbpv?

Will try and get in there this eve to video top bars. Will the top bars of supers do or brood box only?

    Some advice please - cbpv?

Have tried to attach a longer version of that video but too large. Trying to figure out a way to do it. Bees on the ground are predominantly dead. A handful on the ground performing, or attempting to, undertaker duty. Hive on a palette and with long grass in front so obscures true number of...
