    Show me the honey.

A lot of you dont consider this, but I suspect some of people quit because of the expense. If I did not get good honey last year, there is a good chance I would not have bees now. If you put a lot of money in early on and start with some bad harvests, it could all seem like a financial black...

    Show me the honey.

I never went to a single training session, nor did I have a mentor (because Covid). I learnt mostly online, from youtube and this forum. I read 1 bee keeping book. I must confess I feel quite proud of myself for getting this far if the drop out rate is as high as you say. It has not been easy...

What do you do with your honey money?

I broke even last year and was actually about £20 into the green. Then I invested in more kit and sank back into the red. I wont quite claw back to green this year and have more kit purchases planned. But providing the gods of weather and bee prosperity play nicely, I hope one day to reach a...

    Has anyone used this?

I get it now...... and I read it as a serious comment haha

    The Bees Win

That is a good point. From what I recall the guy in the vid extracted honey from a bunch of hives, then mixed it all together before re-feeding. But definitely something to consider if you did some re-feeding. I feed all my wet capping to 1 hive last year, but decided it was not good...

    Has anyone used this?

I pulled that quote from a .gov page. But on closer inspection I think it should read: "only pesticides approved by the appropriate Regulatory body's shall be sold, supplied, used" Maybe the regulators are overseen by a minister, so maybe the buck stops with them. so it might be technically...

    Has anyone used this?

Off the top of my head Api-bioxal is 99% (ish) OA, then there is a little bit of something else! If the relevant data was submitted to the regulators, I see no reason why pure (off the shelf) OA could not be regulated for use as we wish. The problem is the cost to run the studies to produce the...

    The Bees Win

I saw a youtube where a guy fed his honey back to his bees to make Ross Rounds. He said you needed a good steady flow to make high quality ross rounds. He selected bees that made good wax to produce the rounds, then fed them the honey from his other hives whenever there was a dearth. This guy...

    Highest varroa count

I had very high counts last year: https://beekeepingforum.co.uk/threads/high-mite-count.48683/ Am starting this years treatments soon.

    Moron of the day ....

"wasp powder" - haha. All my knowledge of pesticides and I had never herd of wasp powder! In my defense its not a "crop protection product" witch is more my remit. But, yes, looks like you are right. I would guess they still have not followed the instructions on the label.

    Moron of the day ....

Looks like ant powder. If so surely they have not followed proper use as stipulated on the label. It might not be malicious, they probably saw a hornet near the ivy and freaked out. A lot of people are just clueless about pesticides. I had a neighbor who doused her garden in pesticide this...

    Moisture content

2000 lbs honey - congrats. I read that above 23% is the high fermentation risk point. So just prevent it from getting too hot and you should have time to resolve your issue. You could place honey and dehumidifiers in a confined space, a small room or large tent perhaps, probably best to add a...

    Storing Capped Frames

I accidentally put a cut come foundations frame in my extractor last year. There was a large thud and my extractor started dancing! It was a year 1 comb so still soft. So do as others say and start slow. If you have one of the extractors where you need to flip the frames, then extract and...

    Posting Cut Comb

I considered the freezing route, but as Ian says frozen wax can be brittle. Then there is all the extra packing faff, so easier just to pop it in a box.

    Posting Cut Comb

I went with a 1.3L box from Asda for £1 in the end. It holds the comb from one frame cut in half and placed into the box in 2 layers. I am very happy with these boxes so thats what I will be using.

    Cleaning a Konigin extractor

Different model, same problem, mine is 4f so tilting is not so bad. It annoys me that extractors are made like that. I was thinking of drilling a little hole in the bottom of my extractor, then blocking it with a bung. Or even adding a little bit of tube and a 2nd tap.

    prizing supers appart

I normally do pretty much as you as you say. Attack form sides, freeing them in turn. Once the tool is in prizing is not a problem. I dont think its to do with how pours it is, both are coated the same. And the propolis is minimal. My bees tend to use mostly wax at the joints. My finly crafted...

    Posting Cut Comb

Thanks. I sell old tat on ebay so have done my fair share of packing. I just worry that no matter how well I pack a whole frame, if it gets dropped and jolted, then its going to break.

    Posting Cut Comb

It does not look like it will get a comb safely through most uk postal systems. Yet they do offer a frame posted for £60 inc p&p. I suspect they must have an arrangement with a courier that will handle their packages with kid gloves.
