    Paint colour on hives

James, there used to be children's books, each page with a drawing of eg a sailor or a dancer, the pages cut into 3 horizontally so that you could turn each flap separately so that the dancer would end up with eg hairy legs and builder's boots (ho ho). So your lifts wd work like that. Endless...

    Cut comb presentation

Thing is, the crystal boxes look as though they use more plastic than the not very beautiful simple white containers. I love the Ozmert. Please keep us updated on your progress. I'll take 100. J

    Getting creative with wax!

A question on rolled candles please. I have some unwired thin super foundation I bought for cut comb next year. Could I use some of this to make short rolled candles ( I was thinking of using about 2/3 of a sheet each) or should I go for the thicker foundation? Judy

    Getting creative with wax!

Wax your wicks before using. Then they stick well into the sustainers and don't flop at the top. Stick your sustainer to the bottom of the tea light holder with a dot of superglue. Wipe tea light holders carefully with clean cloth while the wax is still very hot - so the outside wax slides off...

Does anyone else do Christmas gifts

Love your labels, Kaz. Thanks for advice on tea lights. They've worked very well and burn for 3-4 hours. J

Does anyone else do Christmas gifts

I'm new to all this but have a lot of good wax this year so... I've bought some tea light holders, wick sustainers and wick from Thornes but the wick, which says No.3, 11/4" on the label looks very thick, much thicker than the commercial tl wicks. Have I made a mistake? What should I be buying...

    Honey price

I agree with much of the comment on honey prices. Why don't we value our products more? We take such care with it, then some oil us charge the same as for supermarket junk. It's an artisanal product and people should expect to pay more for the care we put in and the quality of our product.

    Problems with drawn comb

This is wax moth. It lays eggs in the gaps in the wooden frames and the larvae eat their way across the comb. You have to get rid of the eggs and larvae. Good news is it's easier to deal with than varroa. I had a bad infestation one year. I moved the whole hive about 30 feet away and put a...

Selling honey at the gate: is weight info on the label mandatory?

Raw is ok as long as you don't heat the honey beyond 45 degrees - this is my understanding. Organic is not unless the land the hives are on is certified organic and you're sure they're only collecting honey from certified organic land - hard to do in England - at least this is my understanding.

    Honey Jar Labels ???

I agree with Enrico. Black and white is the way to go. I wanted my labels to reflect the individuality and locality of my honey, as we all do. I paid a graphic designer to design labels for my raw wildflower honey, cut comb and chunk comb honey. He produced them as A4 jpegs, sent them to my...

    Honey Extraction Equipment

Completely agree with Ian. Wasted my money on an electric uncapping knife - awkward, hard on the wrist and not a patch on a good strong bread knife stood in a deep jar of very hot water. As to self-spacers, I alternate narrow and wide plastic spacers which give a good depth of comb.

    Removing Supers advice.

This is a query about top bar hives. IK've a friend who wants to take off a little filled comb but he's concerned about their stores and has no idea how to go about feeding them replacement syrup. Nor do I. Anyone know how how or in what to feed them?

    Foods/drinks to avoid before inspecting?

The very old books say to drink a pint of beer before inspecting.

    Vegan honey (honea)!!!!!!!!

I'm impressed by the fact that they don't label it as honey. They're being honest.
