    Time to change our tune?

Is there a reference for Professor Spector's comments?

Selling, we are doing it wrong.

Temple of Concordia is a lovely idea, appropriate and fun. Looking at the F&M I wish I'd never asked.

Selling, we are doing it wrong.

It's the " exclusively commissioned, handcrafted, double-walled beehives that interest me". Anyone seen a photo of these marvels? Forgot the "unique masterpieces" bit.

    Wax for candlemaking

Christmas markets coming up. What do people find the most popular rolled foundation candle size and how does one arrive at a price, eg bundle of 4, each made from 1/2 sheet of super foundation?

Custom table runners for village show

If you have a technical college or art school in your area it's worth contacting them - there are real good printing facilities at most technical colleges.

    Late swarm

I'm very sorry to hear that. It's a horrible thing to happen. Just a thought - your two hives seem very close together. Do they need to be? I would choose, myself, to have them further apart. What do others think?

    Poured wax candles

It's got to be melted wax poured down the wick - the next question is why wd anyone bother to do it - does it burn with an infinitely superior light?

    Clearing Bees from Supers

Yes, I've used this method for the last 20 years and it's very much easier than struggling with a clearer on every hive, and seems to cause less fuss among the bees.

    Cheap 25 kg Sugar

I'm 'always a bit surprised that beekeeping associations don't buy in bulk for their members. This looks cheaper than the Taunton Bookers which is currently 25k bag for £21.99 which, with my 5 hives, suits me better.

God I love growing our own

What's the name of your battery-powered chainsaw, James. I'm trying to interest my husband in buying one but he says they're not worth it, not powerful enough. Those logs look pretty useful.

    Recycling brood wax?

Some people put a Do Not Eat label on.No idea why. I love real beeswax polish with genuine turpentine the way the National Trust used to make it. It's by far the best for old, fragile wood.

    Propolis !!!

    OK, thanks.

    Propolis !!!

Listed all ingredients on back with a brief description of what propolis is. Passed it by the market controller. Have I done wrong?

    Propolis !!!

I can't remember how much propolis I used - it was trial and error, possibly started with a tspful diluted in 2tbsp warm honey. Think I made half quantities first to check. Or add honey and propolis and drip a bit into cold water to taste. Please be very careful with boiling sugar! To make the...

    Propolis !!!

I used to make it into cough and sore throat sweets - use a basic boiled sweet recipe, and stir some propolis in with a little honey at the last moment. They sold very well in the hexagonal 8 oz jars.

    full length leather gauntlets ?

I used to save a very tough pair of leather gauntlets for a highly defensive colony - I didn't get stung but still worked in a cloud of cross bees - until I was told that bees associate leather smells with intruding animals which of course upsets them. Nitrile or Marigolds don't smell of...

    Poly vs wood?

My uncle gave me 4 wbc's when he retired. I retired the supers to the woodburner after 10 years, so they had 30 years of service, refurbished the floors and lifts, painted the lifts outside and put new National boxes inside. The double-walling provides excellent climate control winter and...

    Honeycomb

I'm hoping that when I put this sort of plastic into the recycling bin that. it is recycled into something useful. You're quite right - I'd much prefer to present my honeycomb in a small purpose-made waterproof cardboard box with a transparent top - but I've never come across it. And it does...

    Honeycomb

A few years ago, during a. very hot late summer I put a super without frames on a hive thinking to give them some extra air - they immediately filled it with ivy honeycomb. The scent was intoxicating. Took it to the chef of the local hotel. It was a lovely moment, all the kitchen staff, each of...
