    Weak Queenless Hive

Let them dwindle, I wouldn't unite them with your currently strong hive.

    Thin to thick

    I wouldn't bother.

    Labels

Thorne offer a service for unique labels, you provide the photo. IIRC, Maisemore offer the same. I use one of Thorne's own, the best before and lot numbers are left blank and this info is added with a fine indelible pen so I order 1000 at a time along with tamper evident and granulation labels...

    Should I combine?

21 days so from day 1 to emerging bees would already be July 30th. Next cycle would be end of August. All is fine and normal IMO, they won't go making masses of mouths to feed as they prepare themselves for Winter.

    Latest from Defra on YLH

At least the word 'Asian' implies it is foreign and an invasive species. 'Yellow Legged' could simply be another type of Hornet.

    Should I combine?

Arrived early July. Even if she started laying on day one it would be end of July before you had new worker bees. Why would you expect them to be bursting with bees at the time of year when colonies are beginning to prepare for Winter? During July and into August, I see laying tailing off and...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Avoided the deluge to get the vaping done at the farm. One downpour turned the roads into rivers and it looked like my plans were going to be washed out but all turned out well despite one moment where I got a bit wet. A friend had invited himself along to look at my bees as he has been having...

    Honey extraction services

I know a commercial oufit who used to offer the service at £10 per super but soon gave up on the idea as it was not cost effective.

Instant vap, used for first time

Vaping in the nuc entrance, just stuff a piece of foam under the OMF and use something to keep it in place.

    Poly Miller Feeder

For years I used litter trays filled with straw and stuck them on the hives with an empty super around them, simple, cheap and effective.

Storage. The biggest problem with beekeeping.

Advice please re wasps in my beekeeping equipment

Look for Dipel or Xentari, often available in smaller quantities from online sellers.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Vaping yesterday, I hefted the hives and they are all nicely heavy. The nucs and single boxes who had a slurp of half a gallon when the supers came off are in a similar position. The old Oak tree colony is now two single boxes, one has not been fed and the other has not touched theirs, both a...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I had a bit of fun a couple of years ago with what I thought was a failed nuc, I waited seven weeks and was so convinced they had no queen that I went to the apiary with a view to shaking them out. So convinced that I only did a cursory scan of the frames, yep, still the same and moved the box...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Vaping today and wasps taking advantage of any chance, doing the nucs meant removing the feeders to vape via modified roofs and they were on them in seconds, desperate to find something.
