    Your glove of choice!

I used to use single use nitriles. But I decided I didn't like the amount of waste generated so have moved to marigold style gloves. I wouldn't rule out the more durable nitriles though. I am currently trying to find marigolds with a snug fit, the ones I have now are a bit loose for my liking.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Oh ok, thanks for that one. I don't think I had heard / read that one before.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Nucs are on a new site. Couple of frames of BIAS with 2 queen cells. Hive is in original location and the queen was left in there. This hive had a late supercedure last year so I did not mark the queen (concerned about damage too late in season for hive to recover) so it is difficult to...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Inspected my hives, first two sites were fine, nothing special, one hive pretty small nest but big enough not to over panic right now. Third site, bit nervous saying what i did for fear of being told how wrong I was but here goes (please be gentle): This is the hive I made double brood box...

i notice this time last year

I had one of my hives so full they had built comb in the fondant tubs and her majesty had already laid in it! I have now made that hive a double BB. Went back 4 days later and it was about 40% drawn and in use.

I would start by rolling them in egg.

So even your dictionary definition you are breaking. How can you not use other animal products of you own 10 hives? Even if you don't eat honey yourself you will be selling the animal products. But that aside (and I really am mainly being tongue in cheek). I am passing no pre-concieved ideas on...

From the vegan society website: Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of...

You are not doing it very well if you have 10 hives ;)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I am aiming for 10(ish). Might get there this year might be next. So I am trying to plan equipment based on having 10 hives - so for example I am not buying a manual 4 frame extractor I am going for a larger electric one.

That should help to give it some taste :)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I did wonder of that would work. Looks like its time to buy a spiral mixer. Its sourcing (or making) and storing a heating cabinet that will be the next challenge. Its not worth me spending much as I only have 5 hives.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Inspired by the top dollar thread, I made my first trial jar of set honey yesterday. I decided I need a bigger pestle and mortar for when I do a full scale batch. But it worked pretty well.

So is the view that a spiral mixer is better than using the 'honey churner'? How do people keep their honey warm? Currently I only have a home brew heat mat - is that sufficient? I guess I need an insulated box to help hold the heat in too.
