    Donating to food bank.

There were a couple of characters who attended the food bank I volunteered at who always took away as much as they could and who, we were told, tried to sell on to their neighbours stuff they didn't like.

What would hive damage due to heat look like?

Beekeepers in Southern Europe and around the world face these temperatures annually without problem.

Risk of collateral damage from sprayed nest.

Thanks for that. One day I'll sit down and work out how to put links via my iPad.

Risk of collateral damage from sprayed nest.

Sheffield Mags, 2008. A pest controller used Ficam D on a feral bees' nest. A local beekeeper lost thousands of bees. The PC was found guilty of four offences of failing to take proper care and fined £200 for each, plus costs of £200.

I didn't see any bees on the lime trees across the road, but they were extremely busy for about a week, coinciding with the blossom, and brought in a lot of nectar during that time. As there's no sweet factory with a leaky pipe nearby, I'll assume that they were working the limes.

Selling honey from the hives in the UK

Strain the honey to get bits of bee and wax out of it. Buy a refractometer to check the water content. Put jars on a set of kitchen scales while filling from a container with a tap. You can buy all the above, but the quality is measured by your taste buds. I'm sad to say you can't buy those. And...

How many hives hits the "sweet-spot"?

Bee buddy and I have twenty over five sites. We hit three apiaries on one morning of the week and two on another. It's up from ten last year. We had been hoping to drop the most distant site this year, but it was doing too well in the spring. Twenty's fine unless we hit a problem and get stuck...

    Adding an undrawn (second) super

Yes, no mention of matchsticks, clearly because they don't have the right type.

    Adding an undrawn (second) super

Americans use flat cardboard matches, so their advice on ventilation must be suspect.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I've mentioned before that my bee buddy has set up some hive scales under one of the hives in his garden, with an email connection to his phone. He's on his way to France for the weekend, and has just received an email from the scales to say that the hive weight has increased by 7.26kg today. I...

On a sunny evening you can tell that the bees aren't just milling around, but have a purpose.

    Honey analysis

I recall seeing a mention of having honey analysed, but can't track it down using the search box. I'd love to have the spring honey from a couple of my apiaries analysed. Could someone steer me in the right direction please.

The lime trees in the park across the road from my home apiary are in full flower, and at midday there wasn't a bee to be seen on them.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I stood by the open boot of my car in the allotments where I have four hives selling honey to the allotmenteers.
