What did you do in the Apiary today?

Bees feeding on this chocolate waste usually have a very strong/rich honey - That "raspy" feeling at the back of the throat. Like old wild colony honey. Very sweet / Strong / Mature.... Great for pork roasts......:) Because it sets a bit faster I also end up using it to help out trapouts and...

Crazy Season about to start here.... Huge amounts of reject chocolate, caramel and sweets waste coming in from production facilities.... And the bees have found it.... Tomorrow all chaos breaks loose as staff try and work around thousands upon thousands of bees.... Melting pots below show...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Dropped the Ball! Please note, expanding foam was only used to close the void between roof/wall and wooden box housing the one way funnel... Bottom line, holes were not sealed up well enough.... 2 days ago I saw a few bees frantically going at this small hole with a few of them managing to get...

So, I ran out of frames a while ago and had to set out some trap boxes around areas with high number of scouts- When you see them, you just know you have only hours to react... What did you do in the 'workshop' today

A few ready for painting..... Still short about 16 for 1st supers on new colonies / cut outs / trap outs... Not the neatest construction but gets the job done.... My opinion about this whole bee thing is it's all about animal husbandry.... Give them what they need and they will thrive......

Wish I could sit around a camp fire with you and encourage the passion that you have.... ( Or grab you by the throat and throttle you) - just joking!!!! From where I come from, 320 acres is not a lot to work with for live stock.... But,,,,, a coffee/health shop on the premises helping with daily...

    This could be interesting!

I have always wanted to "Transplant" a stump like that and fit a super/Brood box to the rear... Bore a hole in with a short Tunnel of perhaps bamboo leading into a mounted Hive... If they use it for honey - great - brood - also great.... What cool feature it would make though... Bees obviously...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

2nd swarm in/on the building in 2 weeks.... almost the entire underside of that old asbestos roof has a layer a propolis/wax on from old swarms.... Burnt black from attempted removals by farm staff in the past... Perhaps cut up that asbestos sheeting into frame size chunks and sell it as swarm...
