Options and suggestions for a Q- nuc

I have tried so many times and failed to save/convert a laying worker colony back into a productive one.... It was actually here on this forum that JBM convinced me to JUST SHAKE THEM OUT.... And thank you for that JBM .... As Master BK says - You CAN waste a lot of time .... And you will! If it...

1st Swarm Video - & me running away lots

Awesome, had to laugh with the running... An awesome hobby that gets your adrenalin pumping. (Cheaper than motor sport) I still find myself on occasion trying to get my head as far away as possible when opening up boxes.... Force of habit after being tagged in the face so many times.... Also...

    Question

I would like to throw my 10 cents worth here.... This is from what I have seen with my colonies and local bees... Perhaps different on your side of the pond? Small wild colonies with limited space swarm often here- as do abandoned bee hives... Larger colonies with unlimited and IDEAL space...

Bees not taking syrup (with Hive Alive)

Perhaps mixed to thick ? I have found some of my colonies wont take it down... What did help on occasion was adding a bit of course salt on top,,, tea spoons worth of large clumps....\ Alternatively, the pink Himalayan salt is also enjoyed, If youre a bit nervous, take a bottle lid with weak...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Been hectic busy here but remembered promising to post some pics of honey frames showing colour variations. Have started our harvest from Dark bees. All Lang brood boxes used as supers - Back killing me... Getting too old for this.... Heaviest box = 35.8kg Lightest = 20.8 Kg's The black darker...

Hive Density - When are there too many?

Trees are not very common, with the limited space these usually offer I believe colonies dont have enough space to build sufficient reserves to see them through. Ground hives are also usually short lived, predators, weather conditions etc etc usually lead to absconding or die out... Most popular...

Hive Density - When are there too many?

Well, in my neck of the woods it's different, very very different. Hive / colony density depends on many factors and I doubt any formula could be used... Very often 2 "wild" colonies in the same building or within meters of each other. This is a common occurrence in high value forage areas. My...

    Polystyrene for hives

I wouldn't do it, as many others here advise..... I use this sheeting to place under my hives when boxes are placed on surfaces that tend to get hot... Tin/zinc roofs for example... The bees chew through any exposed area... especially in front of entrance if piece is left extended under in front...
