Still significant mite drop after OA

I'm still going! and still have drops of over 100 mites 24 hours after the vape. I switched to using a Sublimox now and the next treatment will be the 4th (spaced by 5 days). This is after 5 treatments using a gas~Vap. So up to 9 and still not fall in mite count. Should I switch to MAQS...

Last inspection and lots of EQCs

Just done my last inspections before shutdown (after finishing OA vaping treatment) and one of my nucs has a lot of EQCs and the marked queen is nowhere to be seen (and no eggs). Is this nuc now lost? Seems late to hope that the EQ will mate successfully? Instead, should I try and requeen (if...

Still significant mite drop after OA

These are strong colonies, brood boxes full of bees and plenty of brood. Not counted the number of frames of brood though. I can do that tomorrow. Is there a general rule of thumb?

Still significant mite drop after OA

Do you do the mite drop count after vaping OA you out the plastic board underneath straight after vaping? To also catch the mites that immediately drop and leave there for 24 hours?

Still significant mite drop after OA

Dear all I’ve completed 4 treatments of vapourised OA spaced 5 days apart and I’m still seeing a significant mite drop (20-30 per colony). Should I carry on treating with OA until the mite drop falls? Or switch to MAQS strips? As always, thanks. LD

Supers above or below brood box over winter?

One of the reasons I thought the super was bets on the borrow was so fondant could be placed on the crown board directly above the brood box and not directly above the super.

Supers above or below brood box over winter?

Ah, Ok. But you would put a qx below a brood box if the super was on the bottom though?

Adding bees above or below a super?

Hello I want to combine bees from a queenless nuc with bees in a National hive with a super on top using newspaper. So my question is, am I best adding the extra brood box with the incoming bees above or below the super. Thanks for the advice. LD

    Maqs - bad news

It also means I don’t need to mess around out a crown board between the brood box and super to get all the bees down..

    Maqs - bad news

It is a super we leave on over winter for the bees. Not a super we harvest the honey from.

    Maqs - bad news

Thanks for this. If I want to leave a super on, do I need to double the amount of OA that I vapourise?

    Maqs - bad news

So, just to be clear. At this time of year vapourising OA is an acceptable treatment, it doesn’t need to be MAQS/Formic Acid? Just a treatment of some kind, going into Autumn? Thanks

    Maqs - bad news

OK, 3/4 times between now and the end of the year? Or do you mean, one treatment straight after another? As I mentioned, I usually sublimate in Dec/Jan. best LD
