    Honey price

I've just got back from a local event and was shocked at the price another beek was selling for: His candles were cheap too. I've been selling at £5/£9 for 8oz/1lb on Facebook marketplace and have just about sold out - I was almost tempted to buy some for re-sale... almost.

    Honey Jar Labels ???

Hi, I'm interested in your honey but is it pure? ;)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Strong smell of ivy in the apiary today. The colony I've left a super on is filling it nicely and starting to cap it. I reckon they'd fill another if given the chance, but I'm just going to take this one when it's ready and then hope it's still warm enough to get a few litres of 2:1 into them...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

It literally looked like a desert a few weeks back. Between the kids playing out there, the drought and the dog doing her business I'm surprised it's recovered this much! Nothing the scarifier and a bit of seed can't fix. Might go for clover this time rather than grass.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Salvaged some timbers from a skip They're not in the best condition - notches, one of the long pieces is cracked/almost snapped, saw cuts, screws and nails etc. But I managed to avoid the worst and put together a hive stand. One of the legs has a saw cut about half-way through, but I've...

    Soft-set seed and blended honey

I haven't got any granulated honey... I've got a super hopefully filling with ivy honey and it's said to crystallize rapidly so I was hoping to seed it before it naturally crystallizes so I can control crystal size. That's the gist of my original post - where's the cutoff for the requirement to...

    Soft-set seed and blended honey

I think there's a hint of lavender smell and taste, though not sure if it's just suggestion playing tricks on me. It's nice though. I made some lavender infused honey and it really packs a lavender punch! After straining the lavender back out I've got the infused honey for toast/yoghurt and...

    Soft-set seed and blended honey

I was in Lidl earlier and spotted some soft-set French lavender honey (£3.99/375g). Knowing (perhaps incorrectly?) how particular the French are about their food and controlled regions of origin etc I'm more confident that this is "proper" honey than soft set from Rowse/Hilltop. If I were to...

    Record year?

74kg - happy with that given I only had a single colony at the start of the year and no drawn super frames at all. Split them early, got 4 supers from the original colony, 3 from the split. Also made up another couple of nucs, got another super from one of those.

    Honey Jar Labels ???

I've been meaning to try b&w transparent labels to really show the honey, but transparent labels are a lot pricier than a bulk pack of paper ones... Avery label designer is dead simple and as it's web based it's quite happy on whatever OS (Firefox/KDE/Arch definitely works). They try and push...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Selling at a local charity event with some other local beeks on Monday so I knocked together a couple of display stands out of a pallet, then jarred up my final super that I took off and extracted yesterday. As with anything woodwork related from me they're best described as rustic. Fine...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Final summer super removed and extracted. My other colonies are now down to 14x12 brood box only, but there's no way this colony would fit - replaced the super with an empty drawn super and fingers crossed for some ivy honey.

50mm Recticel in the roof, year round. Additional 50mm Recticel eke with takeaway tub sized hole in the centre (for fondant) overwinter.

    Winter evictions..............

Ivy's almost in flower and the sedums are turning pink. I really must get on with cutting up some insulation for my additional hives this year...

What's flowering as forage in your area

Based on that link I'd say it's Irish Ivy, but there seems to be an awful lot of it around here. That picture was on the wall of a local cemetery - the tree I posted a picture of last year (What's flowering as forage in your area) is at a similar stage of development. My garden fence is covered...

    Green honey

I wonder if it will stay like it too? My first super of the summer had a slight green tinge to it when first jarred, a few weeks later it had gone and was just a pale gold colour.
