What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Built a honey warming cabinet ( there's optimism for you) from existing stores and a 60W tube heater which came out of a campervan some years ago. Won't win any prizes but will do the job. K ;)

Is this an effective way of dealing with AsianHornets nests? If 🤣

Everyone has a right to be stupid, but he's abusing his rights... K ;)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Wow! Busy killer eh? My money is still on a Magpie for last week. The fourth pic looks like a female pheasant and the grey one is a gull as you say. Big birds for the raptor to kill and carry up there... K

What did you do in the Apiary today?

A Corvid of some description then. Either a Magpie if the white bits are feathers or a Jackdaw if the white is ice. K ;)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Magpie? Difficult to judge size from that photo... K ;)

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Repaired an old Nuc. Replaced one side and the bottom as well as replacing the sides (drops?) Of the lid. Nice coat of paint on exterior and all looks good and ready to use again although I need to add a waterproof cover to the lid... Made a 5" deep eke from old floorboards and an insulating...

    Using reclaimed wood

Ref smoker fuel, I tried rotten wood, rolled cardboard, etc but all went out or burned away before I was finished most times. I now use those wee pellets some folk (my Son) buy for their fancy "clean" stoves. Burns well, smokes away nicely and lasts ages. K ;)

    Aerated blocks for hive stand

Happy New year fellow beekeepers. What are your aspirations?

Modest aspirations for me... get my colony through winter. Aim to have two or possibly three colonies by the end of the year. To learn more about this wonderful hobby (for me). Hopefully smooth out the roller coaster ride I've had in 2023. Happy New year all K ;)

    Beekeeping Christmas presents

I was scammed!!! I ordered on line some nice perfume and silk scarves and a pair of shoes for my wife but the scammers sent me some SN1 frames and foundation and other bee stuff... disgraceful! How do they get your details anyway? Take care out there. K ;)

    Hive weight and stores..

Why not ask abelo for the weights of the various components of your hive? They have a "chat" line on their website so you might get a quick reply. You do need to know your tare to understand your stores weight K ;)

Folklore & festivals, and local legends/words

The bees or the wife? K 🤔

    Oxalic pan vape

A "charger" will not do. A power pack will have a battery in it. The right battery for you depends on your needs and budget. The more hives you want to treat the bigger the battery the higher the cost. A small inexpensive motorcycle 12v battery or mobility scooter or house alarm battery will do...

    Autumn foraging

There's only two seasons here... Winter and July K ;)

    Fiddling vs curiosity/necessity

Meanwhile... There was a window of weather, sunny, calm and 12deg so I did the changeover as required and had no problems. Fondant was mostly gone, say 1/2 kg left in the wrapper. The bees had not moved into the loose, bagged insulation in the eke and had not chewed the bag so that came off OK...
