    NHS Photos

Cant help I'm afraid but the initials to an inhabitant of the UK suggest National Health Service and my mind automatically expected photos of operations, intestines and various trauma.😵

    CBPV or something else

It's a personal observation with a sample of one beekeeper but for almost all my beekeeping time I've thought many of the problems blamed on poisoning have actually been CBPV before it became widely known.

    MIssing Posts

Checking my personal forum details I chanced across the function "connected accounts" this turned out to be Facebook and Google. I'm not clued up on the finer nuances of allowing log ins from those sources but at first glance it appeared to blow a huge hole in any security restrictions? Am I...

    MIssing Posts

I thought I'd successfully changed password yesterday and I regained access, but this morning I was unable to get into the forum again. Simultaneously while not logged in every page was cluttered with Google ads. After a number of attempts to log in I tried the forgotten password option and set...

    Nonsense never cease in beekeeping

Does that infer a straight sum or a geometric progression?

Is it related to funding appeals by any chance? Also out of the blue I've had a password reset required 🤔

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Wandering round outside the apiary fence yesterday afternoon I passed under a low overhanging tree and realized I had buzzing close by my ear. Instinctively ducked and took a step away then turned and saw I had passed within inches under a clustered swarm. I found an empty paynes polynuc with...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

If you really must use a clip why not pass a cocktail stick through the slots and span between frames? String, especially thin string is easily chewed.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

A couple of years ago my pre-teen granddaughter complained about being stung (and she said nowhere near a hive). She didn't get much sympathy when CCTV proved otherwise. 😎

hive ventilation - sauna or chimney?

As a boy living near the Yorkshire Howden, there was an old elm tree on the roadside near a junction. The main trunk was quite hollow up to the first branches at about 20 feet where it opened out and us kids would clamber up inside to peer out from the elevated space. At ground level it was...

sources of nuclei around the South Coast / New Forest area?

I'm not sure if Exmoor bees are still being run by the family since Hivemaker shuffled off this mortal coil but perhaps others will know.

hive ventilation - sauna or chimney?

There are a LOT of unscientific myths bandied about much of beekeeping can be infested with them. Personally I use Abelo 11 frame National polyhives which by definition are insulated. NO holes in the crownboard except when I open them for feeding in autumn/winter and then they are covered by...

    Caught swarm, re-swarming.

I've had a swarm that landed in a Blackthorn bush. Got it into a nuc and all seemed hunky dory. Following day they came out and went back to the bush so I gathered them in again. Day 3 back in the bush. Hived them again and sprayed the bush with beequick. Day 4 they went off again I don't know...

    Micro mini colonies

Are they entering the box? I'd be inclined to have a glance inside tomorrow to see if there's any signs of comb building or other preparations for setting up home.

    Asbestos Hives

The dangers of Asbestos were realized long ago now and going back to the 1980s corrugated sheets for roofing and similar works were made out of other fibres and cement. I recently had an old pigsty demolished after the materials had been tested and happily found not to contain asbestos. As often...

    Restarting my hive

There were a couple of swarm appeals in the Selby Beekeepers FB group over the last couple of days. Have you made contact or maybe you've got bees now?

    Keeping bees in the garden

Cue the old joke about the farmer towing a steaming trailer load of manure to put on his strawberries?
