    Vat on nucs

Ok cool. This has always confused me. So if I sell an item that should have vat applied how does the hmrc get their cut?

    Vat on nucs

Quick question. If you sell a five frame nuc in a correx box is vat applicable? I'm believe livestock is vat exempt but wasn't sure if the frames count?

    mead made with bakers yeast?

Baker's yeast is fine. It normally has a tolerance of about 12%abv so you mill need to adjust your og to suit however it generally performs very well. Its main issue is that it doesn't form such a nice compact yeast cake at the bottom so it's a bit harder to rack. I've made plenty of mead...

I'm just starting to experiment with brewing beer. Have done mead and wine for a while. Have done a few kits and now I'm looking to doing some LME recipes.

Thinking of making boxes from pallet wood.

I'm watching it at the moment. Just trying to work out how I sneak it past Kim.......

Thinking of making boxes from pallet wood.

Any thoughts on a suitable motor for this. Have seen half horsepower single phase motors that run at 3000rpm for not too much money.

Thinking of making boxes from pallet wood.

Yep understood, aware that they will have a shorter life span and weight disadvantage the reasons were more from a cost perspective. If I could afford to buy a bunch of cedar boxes then I would but I'm not in a financial position to do this at the moment. So maybe this option will tide me over...

    Beekeepers Professions

my first site is on the allotments which is a five minute walk from home. I don't keep any production colonies there I just use it for nucs and queen mating. My other site is about a fifteen minute drive away and has room for 8 hives although there's ten there at the moment. The new site is...

    Beekeepers Professions

I started out in agriculture working dairy farms mostly before ending up back on the inner city community farm I started volunteering for at age 11. As the family got bigger and I took on a mortgage the money in agri just wasn't good enough so moved to the railway in 2007. I spent 11 years as a...

    Maybe I should get myself a planer.......😱

Thinking of making boxes from pallet wood.

Agreed. I've used sash clamps and gorilla glue when making crown boards etc that seems to work ok although I've not done it for actual boxes. I'm at the yard tomorrow so will pick up some fresh pallets, I have in mind a variation of @pargyle method above to try out and see if it will produce...

Thinking of making boxes from pallet wood.

I get a free supply of pallets from work although none have a ply base.

Thinking of making boxes from pallet wood.

Any thoughts on how long it would need to settle?

Thinking of making boxes from pallet wood.

Would it be worth disassembly of the pallet and stacking the wood flat in advance for a while to let it settle?

Thinking of making boxes from pallet wood.

Hi all I've been making floors, crown boards and roofs from pallet wood for a while now and with the incredible increase in the cost of boxes I'm thinking of building my own from pallets as well. I use commercial kit currently and measuring a box I have in the garage give a wall thickness of...

    Mead and wine making

I stop when it's done. Once the gravity stays steady over a few days then you should be good. I racked it at 1.008 and it stayed at that. I like to leave things in bulk as long as possible before bottling as it gives a more consistent product. I think yeast types are a bit subjective. Apart...

    Mead and wine making

Sure 4 Liters of water cold, add fresh ground coffee to taste. (I used about half a lb) Let it brew for 24 hours. Then filter out and add 2 3/4 lb sugar stir to dissolve. Add 2oz raisens chopped and the zest of half an orange and the juice of one orange. Check the gravity and adjust to...

The flip top is a clear bottle though so shows the colour of the coffee wine a bit.
