What kind of mini nuc is that?

Happy New year fellow beekeepers. What are your aspirations?

If rumours have any validity there may be some! Time will tell.

Happy New year fellow beekeepers. What are your aspirations?

What's tch equipment? Always worry when I hear of money being ploughed into equipment.. Edit: if you can do without it for the time being you may well find it much cheaper in an auction in a couple of years.

    WHO

lol. Yes it could have been....but it wasn't.... there's a certain hard to explain positive kind of oneupmanship when you're the only child in school with your own water and electricity! It also proved to be a good grounding in resiliency when adult life threw difficulties my way. But I...

    WHO

I remember the days when we had to crank start an old lister generator to watch TV and then resort to oil lamps when it was shut down for the night. Good days but I think I'd miss YouTube if we reset!

    WHO

She's probably in most homes already, just lying low waiting.

    Patrick Murfet moving on...................

One thing I'm not quite sure about, may well have missed it, is whether the 'Value in beekeeping ' site has also changed hands. Not over bothered about having a personal relationship with any equipment retailer that I haven't actually met. In fact I think there's probably some benefit in them...

    Christmas avatars

No, she'd have been mortified to be thought of as middle class (that's where people with no 'go' in them hang out).

    Christmas avatars

I remember with fondness, back in the mid eighties ,my then aged grandmother explaining in her overly educated blunt manner to a pair of knockers that they wouldn't be pulling her mistletoe which adorned an ancient apple that towered above all the nearby trees. (It came down in the big gale but...

    Christmas avatars

I got here eventually. A nativity set, moulds by Hobby Kreation in Germany (the owner has a soft spot for Dorset having spent a year in Bridport) . I bought the moulds over a period of about five years, the first ones were purchased while I was living in a tent but looking to make a living...

    Drone rearing for queen breeding

I've come to think along the lines of just letting all the colonies produce drones as they wish, for someone on the south coast who doesn't start grafting till early may this works fine. Again, late season mating is usually very successful here despite the natural cessation of drone rearing and...

Asian Hornet Presentation at National Honey Show

I'm tempted to stand as an independent next time around, I certainly couldn't be less effectual than our current chap.

Asian Hornet Presentation at National Honey Show

That should be of real concern, presumably no more money means continued strain on the bee inspection side of their job.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

The Walrus and honeybee published a short interview with Randy Oliver yesterday, just wondering if this is part of what you were referring to: "RO: Yeah, I’ve developed this new technique now, using titration to determine the exact amount of oxalic acid residues on bees’ bodies after...

Why is this, whatever it is, taking so long?

Is the apparent size difference an optical illusion or actual?

Overwintered Vs Spring Nuc for first time hive

That must be the third option that @Scout didn't mention.

Overwintered Vs Spring Nuc for first time hive

I'd personally go for the overwintered nuc althou as jbm has said there will be more for you to wrestle with if you choose that route.. But my thinking is that if you're waiting till mid July (not what I'd class as spring) then you've lost most of the season and you'll soon realise how little...

    Langstroth jumbo swarm control

No specific experience with the langstroth jumbo, but I do use modified dadants which take an extra, eleventh frame, one of those broods is pretty much equivalent to a national brood and half with respect to comb area, so although you have what might be considered a mid range brood area it's all...
