    Haynes Bee Manual

Part of the reason I’m selling my ‘67 Morris Minor is that I can’t fit a poly hive on the back seat 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

How to take off winter stores

Thanks everyone- all sorted, I hope! one more honey frame swapped for new foundation in BB, so four in total, plus a super on the top. Also saw the Queen for the first time - she is tiny and very dark so it’s no wonder I’ve not seen her before, but at least I know what I’m looking for now. No...

How to take off winter stores

Funny as I wrote that I thought the same thing about daffs… Yes we do have dandelions - lots of them (except when my overly tidy neighbour strims them 😡) and I’d forgotten about them - long busy day - they’re spectacular atm!

How to take off winter stores

Nectar flow is ok but is mostly trees as daffodils have gone over and not many spring ground flowers yet to replace them.

How to take off winter stores

Thank you - will swap more brood frames for foundation (done 3 so far) to give her more room…I am learning as you say, and hopefully in time to prevent a swarm…I’ll check at the weekend and replace a couple more frames. Stores are all honey so I’ll fill a few more jars; do I need to leave the...

How to take off winter stores

Sorry didn’t mean to confuse you - no supers at all yet, I’d just read elsewhere on forum not to put super above brood at this point because it’s adding extra space that then needs heated…but poss I’ve misunderstood! Will get super sorted this weekend - but for future reference when would...

How to take off winter stores

Single national BB came through winter well but didn’t need all the stores I left them. Now has 4 frames of brood all stages and rising, so I’m taking out honey frames (they didn’t need fondant) to make space. Pollen coming in. Do I take off honey frames one at a time or all at once - and if the...

Do I leave fondant or stores in?

Ok managed a quick inspection after work, hive bees are bringing in pollen and they still have plenty of stores (at least 3 full frames both sides). Am thinking I need to put super on )the one I nadired over winter is unused so I’ll move that up,..or would I be better changing old frames for new...

Do I leave fondant or stores in?

I will do my best but although the temperature is ok on paper we have a really cold wind blowing, or am I worrying too much about that?!

Do I leave fondant or stores in?

Thank you for your very detailed replies, we’ve not yet had the weather for a proper inspection but I will do one as soon as the temperature is kind enough, hopefully in the next few days🙂… in terms of hefting both nuc and hive are still heavy so I know they’re ok, just need a proper look as you...

Do I leave fondant or stores in?

Happily, both my hive and the nuc seem to have come through the winter ok. Now the daffodils are out, along with celandines and a few early honest flowers, should I take the fondant out of the nuc or leave it in there? The hive hasn’t needed any as they had lots of stores, which presumably I now...

    Add fondant, or stop fussing?!

Thank you for the reassurance everyone - sounds like they’re doing what they’re supposed to be doing and my job is to do nothing and let them get on with it!

    Add fondant, or stop fussing?!

My brood and a half poly hive is still very heavy, with colony clustered between the frames just under the roof. It’s still cold here and they looked (from a v quick glance) v sleepy, but they were moving. Is it safe to assume they’ve got the stores they need, where they need them, or should I...
