God I love growing our own

I have a battery hedge trimmer. Much lighter. Only use to keep the bloody leylandii under control to be honest burt can raise it above my head no problems. My veg garden only produces enough compost for a few beds. Farmer next door will dump a load of manure in my garden for a few quid. How much...

It could have been a lot worse. I don't waste time on the correct grammar or spelling for the current shower in power . Please except my grovelling apology that it offended you !

The problem with fracking in the UK is we are a small island. You would not want a well anywhere near you.The US is huge , with large amounts of 'empty ' space. They have wells stretching from horizon to horizon. We can't do that here. In the US as soon as the well runs dry , they declare...

It tasted good. I had a very large sack of them in the kitchen and it lasted about 3 months.

    Solar Panel Storage Batteries

With great difficulty. They will fight you every step of the way. I lived in a grade 1* house, built in 1440 by the master of the rolls for Henry 5th and 6th Not even allowed to paint the front door !

You beat me too it. Colgar keeps for ages. I also bought some Achocha (Bolivian cucumber) from them, had them before but put in too late this year to get much. Its Capsicum texture with cucumber flavour, salads or cooked. It's a massive climber with a lot of fruits. Bees seem to like it.

Real seed company does a tomato variety called COLGAR that keeps for months.

I would want a free ship at that price.

    Wasps

They are incredibly weak and the abdomen has no bulk. It almost looked to be collapsing in on itself, it was so empty.

    Wasps

if your colony is strong enough they don't stand a chance of doing any serious damage.

    Wasps

Well they will attract them. I put one underneath one of my hives and it got filled up pretty quickly. I do feel sorry for them. Saw one on the inspection board that was so emaciated. Nature is so cruel.

    Wax or plastic foundation poll

They seem to have a habit of making poor decisions but we are fast catching up.

    sugar price

I thought the sugar industry in the UK has been given a green light to continue use of neonicotinoids. A brexshit 'benefit' ! In my part of the country I have seen more sugar beet than ever before. It helps being the chairman of British sugar with a tory mp for a wife.

Setting unrealistic expectations for a beekeeping lifestyle

I can whole heartedly back 'The Stath' in pretty much anything other than 'In the name of the King'. Hitman AND Beekeeper are compatible. I should know I have two hives and only retired from the hitman business 6 months ago. It's your knees and elbows that get it in this game.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Did the same, no suit. Put fondant in previously with no problems. One hive just went for me , about half a dozen stings on each arm and two back of the neck. I was OK/ish the next day. The day after I was really ill, both arms very swollen. WEAR THE SUIT!!!

Newbie question: Where (and when) do I get bees?

Wait until you have done the course. I joined my local club and put myself on the swarm list. I now have two hives from two donated swarms. Got one through the winter and the second one hopefully makes it through this winter as well. Good luck.
