Emails eco friendly? Think of everything that was built/manufactured for you to be able to send that email. You can compost junk post.

    Done for Queen?

It's just that the abdomen looked a bit longer than normal. OK so I can sleep reasonably easy tonight. Cheers Beeks.

    Done for Queen?

Hive inspection today and came across this sorry looking specimen. The hive is going full on . Not sure why they feel the need to supercede unless she is past her best. Barely able to walk and bees pretty much ignoring her. Thought I heard piping from the hive as well.

    Latest time to buy bees

Patience is a virtue. Do the full course , then get bees in the spring. You may be lucky enough to get a swarm for free then. If you get them now you will quite literally be floundering in the dark in a couple of months. It will just be luck if they survive the winter with your lack of knowledge...

    Supers and varroa treatments

Probably more oxalic acid in a plateful of spinach than would 'taint' the honey in supers.

    Bird Feet

Could be a young corvid of some kind. I have some crows feet that look similar. The talons on a raptor would be larger. I have some Kestrel feet and the talons are very large. I have a collection of wings, skulls, feet, skins, ***** bones(badger) of various dead creatures

    Where are the wasps?

Well pleased to see the garden with a lot of different Butterflies on the Budleia at last. Asparagus, Lavender and Marjoram heaving with all varieties of pollinators. All very late but better than never.

One of our BKA members has a problem

They might not taste it but it could well give them an upset stomach. Put some spicy joloff rice leftovers on the lawn. We get rooks, magpies, jackdaws and seagulls. Seagull took a whole load of the stuff but did not come back for more. I think word must have got round, no birds came back for...

Now thats what a colony ought to be like ?!

The reason I was so lax about it , I had a lot of extra work on Wolf hall, really long 12 hour plus days and I was just strait up too knackered for about three weeks ! Next year will be my fourth year and according to my club I will no longer be a noob, so yes I have to get on the case for sure.

Now thats what a colony ought to be like ?!

    Where are the wasps?

Wasps about but not in any great number and butterflies, several types, just starting to appear in 'numbers' on the numerous buldeia we have dotted around the garden. Still WAY down on previous years. We've had it as a species really.............................

    Where are the wasps?

I suspect we may well be the first species to die out as a result of being to stupid to survive !

Now thats what a colony ought to be like ?!

Last years swarm that I let swarm two three times this year (DOH!) has pretty much filled a second super. First super is 7/10 full, second super is 8/10 full. Never seen so many bees, I guess this is what is 'normal' for bees ? The first colony I had was queened by a lazy git who pegged it this...

    2 stroke fuel

You thought wrong. It does not oil up the plug.

    2 stroke fuel

I take the sparkplug out , put a teaspoon of 2 stroke oil in the chamber, pull it a few times replace the spark plug. Works for me.

    Plastic Frames

In theory it sounds good. In practise the Bees do not seem to like it all. I was given a frame with plastic foundation and they barely touched it. I have read that if you paint a thin layer of bees wax on it they will draw comb. If it was successful I think a lot of us would use them.
