    Use of apivar

I think it has been here a while, I personally make my own and have used Apitraz which is the same as I make up 500mg of amitraz per strip.

    Use of apivar

Yep, Portugal. I accidentally left them in one apiary longer than 45 days, I struggled with varroa the following year.

    Chinese nicot systems

I have a few different types of chinese copies, there are lots around, I did buy some brilliant ones with no difference to Nicot but a fraction of the price, I cant remember the seller as was in 2015

    Queen bee info.

Not sure I have ever heard of package bees being sent with no queen? She is usually in a cage with the consignment.

Devon BKA Asian Hornet Initiative - The Martyn Hocking Experience

They appear here around July and shed queens late October/November. We need Karol to answer that question but I seem to remember him saying they need to get established first, feed on more local insects then as the nest size increases they attack en masse, I think in the UK it takes until...

    The Harry Johnson Trust

Just a heads up for an amazing beekeeping collection who belonged to Robert C Young who was editor of Beecraft, going up on Ebay at the moment, proceeds to The Harry Johnson Trust who was a little fella aged 7 who died from cancer in 2014, his Mum set up the charity and 100% of the money goes to...

Devon BKA Asian Hornet Initiative - The Martyn Hocking Experience

I did contact them during Tetbury, they were initially interested but they dont like Fipronil. Once they found the nest the confidence was up and definitely no longer interested, which was fine. I agree with them, the method of finding the nest with only one or two nests and huge numbers of...

Devon BKA Asian Hornet Initiative - The Martyn Hocking Experience

What was strange here was the fact there were no other hornets sighted, if there were a few reports I'm sure they would investigate, but with so many reported, I'm sure Richard Noel said NBU had 500 false reports in a week. I know to the untrained eye the hornet doesnt look that different to the...

Devon BKA Asian Hornet Initiative - The Martyn Hocking Experience

Yes the NBU have to have their procedures, I do agree with them. I understand hornets can be aggressive near a nest although I have not seen a live nest. Reporters and the public would be at risk if they disclosed the site. I don't really want to come over too harsh but I really dont see why...

Devon BKA Asian Hornet Initiative - The Martyn Hocking Experience

Interesting, pretty anti NBU which is probably unfair considering they will receive many apparent VV sightings, their protocol seems to be working. Not completely factually correct and very much about him rather than the NBU's priority which will be eradicating the hornets. IMO the risk to the...

    Sublimox

Taken from managing varroa, beebase Use of non-approved generic substances In many European countries, including the UK, some beekeepers have used generic naturally occurring substances including organic acids (such as formic acid, lactic acid and oxalic acid) and essential oils (such as...

Is it the same for sublimated OA?

    Vaping

I would say it is worth a peek, you can guess the frame most populated would be the frame with brood, if no brood you are onto a winner.

    Vaping

I wasnt refering to you, its only me that seems to lose queens with oav. did you get that good drop without blocking off the floor?

    Vaping

I lost another queen last week to vaping, timing of queen cells can mean it was the treatment. From the pic it looks like a big cloud of vapour, do you seal off the omf?

    Probiotics in human

Haha! I had to comment just eating my cerial with milk from the farm, I dont ever drink supermarket milk and never have a bad belly. I used to suffer from indigestion, I havent had it for years.

    Pick up Truck

New wellies and a drive in the snow are a little different, well £30k different to throwing a load of wood in the back, my van is a mess in the back but I have 3 vehicles, I certainly wouldnt want a vehicle I use everyday, drive to meetings and stinking of whatever, dented and looking a state.

    Pick up Truck

The problem here is you are trying to tick a few boxes, it never works. I'd buy an old hilux for your crappy jobs, and keep a good motorway car for your other work. I have had many vehicles, the one which currently ticks all the boxes is a VW Transporter, I do have a decent high mpg performance...

Winter varroa treatment for nucs - OAV?

+1 for sponge, so easy to make up and very little leakage. Wood works ok but still leaks. I sometimes wonder if it is working as nothing comes from the bottom, sometimes from the roof

    setting up mating apiary

I agree, huge amount of resources, with less than ideal weather conditions, testing could take years, even then your queens with respect wont be a patch on some good bought in queens where breeders do all the hard work. I can appreciate what you are trying to do though.
