    "Asian Hornet" seen in Cornwall

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4faleGFgYco https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6XN31-TAl4 It is a desperate and not an easy route, however you have to understand the situation. We get no help and are left to deal with the situation ourselves. The guy who recorded these videos lost his business...

    "Asian Hornet" seen in Cornwall

Excellent! Yes I think it could do with some work. The problem I have this year, which is a good problem, I dont have enough hornets to treat so I haven't completely wiped them out. It is very time consuming running around the hives after a single hornet and they are not easy targets, I just...

    "Asian Hornet" seen in Cornwall

Thanks, this is all very interesting and great getting information from a country which has the science behind VV. In Portugal it is just "Tough". I really do think VV will never get established in the UK, if those nests were just starting off and it is already less than 15o, I'm guessing only...

Asian hornets in the UK. A chance of stopping them?

I think Frontline plus is too strong from memory, you need the hornets to die from 2-4 hours, longer is ideal as they can feed other hornets. This is the stuff I use...

Type of bee that best survives hornet predation

I find location and size of colony are the factors that determine whether a colony is repeatedly attacked. Any end hives, hives placed with reverse entrances and hives with high volume of foragers are the ones which suffer most losses.

less wasps, less pesticides, loads of pests and no produce.

    "Asian Hornet" seen in Cornwall

I believe they are having problems in France which they blame on traps set for Asian hornets. The traps have been also catching native wasp and hornet queens, as a result there has been a huge increase of pesticide use and beekeepers have been reporting up to 90% losses in certain areas. As a...

    "Asian Hornet" seen in Cornwall

I wouldn't risk using it on wasps, the reason it works so well on VV is the fact VV are large, even using smaller VV the hornet usually dies, even with a smaller dose and they have to be picked up, the guard bees nearly always try and chase the dying VV, they go back the nest possibly with some...

    "Asian Hornet" seen in Cornwall

Agreed, we always see hornets at beehives before anywhere else, usually months before. Only occasionally do we find them crossing roads and flying around although easily spotted. Later in the year when sweet feeding you see them near Ivy or nectar rich plants or around spilt sugar solution...

    Power Source for Sublimox

Very good for the money, I paid £30 more for an inverter, my power is free though :-)

    Power Source for Sublimox

It will at the moment, MSW slowly destroy some components, it is well documented. Going anything other than PSW is a gamble at best.

    Power Source for Sublimox

I think most affordable generators are modified sine wave, are these compatible with the electrics on the sublimox, that could be an expensive lesson.

Asian hornets in the UK. A chance of stopping them?

I should probably give more detail in particular for the guys in Thailand who have seen some improvements too. On the Friday 17th I spent some time catching and releasing, had a few problems not being able to catch enough to treat and lack of practice with the zapper. I maybe caught 10, 5 of...

Asian hornets in the UK. A chance of stopping them?

As far as my limited knowledge of wasps goes (I prepare to stand corrected Karol), I think you really need wasps, they are really good pest gatherers early in the season. It is only now and with the sweet eating foragers they become a problem, kill the foragers, certainly. I think come spring...

    Asian hornets

Thanks Karol, your professional guidance was key to success. All I can say is this year is a dream. I have done no trapping and have seen a grand total of about 20 hornets in all my apiaries, in fact they are a pain to catch and treat because I really need about 10 to see the difference. I have...
