    Keeping on top of varroa

Yes, I'm sure it was mentioned it creates scar tissue on parts of the lung, not sure what the imlplications of that are but it doesnt sound too great.

    Keeping on top of varroa

What kind of trouble are you in with inhaling OA? I am interested, Karol warned me along with a few other people. I do of course wear safety gear. I do live in PT where drink driving is still socially acceptable.

    Keeping on top of varroa

Yes it is superb, I was one of those idiots lugging about a big 12v battery and invertor for the sublimox. I love it, come accross a hive that visibly looks like it is struggling or an end hive which is prone to high loads, one shot, no planning needed to treat, it is always in my box. The...

    Keeping on top of varroa

One shot with a gasvap and wait 24 hours, gets 20-25% of total load at the same time, so much easier and faster than any other method I have used. https://www.facebook.com/pg/GasVap/about/

    Asian Hornet - Hampshire

Personally I don't really care about what others say about him. He is currently adding the destruction of VV to his CV and how much has he made out of it?

    Asian Hornet - Hampshire

Absolutely agree, he is a wealth of knowledge. I honestly can't believe he has hounded anyone except to give advice as to how a homemade trap would work better. He has spend many an hour of his time FOC to assist with experiments and I am controlling my Asian hornets now as a result. He is far...

    Asian Hornet - Hampshire

I would say if it is a queen it would tie in with Tetbury and Devon nests in that they only started attacking in September. I saw my first asian forager about 5 minutes ago so we are a good 10 weeks ahead. The queens come out early to collect sugars to start the primary nest, that is when the...

    Asian Hornet - Hampshire

If it is a queen and it is still in its primary nest by the time it develops into the secondary nest and attacks beehives it will be October. That is why I just can't see VV being a problem in the UK. Our queens were out in March.

    EfB

Yes EFB does have a petterpot brood pattern and I find it really difficult to diagnose, PMS is very similar. I use EFB test kits or just destroy the colony. Those pictures dont show either and I would sleep very soundly.

Not changed much here has it?

Welcome back and I am pleased you have managed to keep some bees. I'm sure Karol will be back once the wasps start attacking with his sound advice, I'll certainly be on the phone when Velutina appears. I'm still on a facebook ban, banned for using the word Buckfast, some ***** here has...

How smal does a gap have to be to stop asian hornets

Yes, removing landing boards is a good idea when hornets are hawking, according to Karol they can only fly for round 50 mins before refuelling. They often use a landing board to rest and quickly take off when they see an incoming bee. Removing the landing board makes them fly the entire time. I...

How smal does a gap have to be to stop asian hornets

You are watching the Asian Giant Hornet (Vespa mandarinia). I have only had 4 hives fail, there were around 20 hornets hawking outside for about 6 weeks.

How smal does a gap have to be to stop asian hornets

I haven't ever seen an angry asian hornet, of the thousands I have killed only one went for me and I'm sure that was a mistake, disorientated after being pinged by my hive tool. They are very docile, hovering outside makes them really easy targets. I am yet to see a hornet even try and get...

How smal does a gap have to be to stop asian hornets

They don't go inside the hive until it has failed, I have had them inside mating nucs but generally they do all their hunting outside the hive.

    Supercedure?

:iagree: I see this up to 50% of new queens, I'm still not sure if this is to do with weather, bees too old, treatment as I always treat for varroa during this brood break, access to food affecting queens laying or size of colony. I usually introduce to very weak colonies for ease of...

    Dealing with hell

You have to remove any chance of them making a new queen, no eggs no larvae, you will see how they change their tune once they run out of options. +1 for a push in cage, moved around if necessary and only remove once she is properly accepted, no more than a few bees wandering accross. I have had...
