Question on Nucleus method of swarm control

What's the rush they ain't going anywhere until the first queen emerges. What had happened to the queen cell you left ? It fits in well with the 7 day inspection plan which is why I like it and it doesn't impact the honey crop too much.

    Importation of bees

The courts will sort it out. Pointless bickering on here about it nothing will be achieved. The importation of queens in relatively unaffected and that is all most are bothered about. If Brexit hadn't happened this topic wouldn't even be being discussed and unrestricted imports would carry on...

Question on Nucleus method of swarm control

It's very very rare bees take the trouble to cap an empty cell during swarm season. I can't see through brood or honey cappings either.

Question on Nucleus method of swarm control

Nuc method works perfectly well BUT you only leave 1 cell, open or sealed it matters not. You have to shake all the bees off the frames to find all the cells, miss one and you've ballsed it up. Only merit to leaving an open cell is more time to get back and remove other cells.

    Importation of bees

Go and look at BE website. All queen orders etc are being referred to the new NI company. I was talking to a guy that had ordered 25 queens, he was gutted when I told him they are rubbish and will be gone by summerThey don't overwinter well either not like buckfast from UK or Denmark. You can't...

How many jars of honey in a year?

If cappings touch the honey then it can have some effect on the water content of the stored honey. You'll see it weeping from the stored cells. Bee in damp climates like AMM have domed cappings and leave an air gap between the cappings and honey to stop this happening. Clever little buggers...

    Nuc beekeeping

No Idea but they do. They build up like no tomorrow though. Only thing I could think of was it didn't allow the typical round brood nest. Tried supers on them and the were ignored. I cut the feeder out of paynes poly nucs and made them 8 frame added an extra brood body for the 16 frames. Tried...

    Nuc beekeeping

Tried it and wow it is total bollocks, bees in a nuc swarm. Doesn't matter if it's a 16 frame nuc they swarm. You'll make jack all honey and be up a tree for months. Stick them in a 12 frame box and make some honey.

How many jars of honey in a year?

Valid point. it can work well. I ran out of supers last year and had to use brood boxes, no fun lifting them when up a stepladder. Sometimes multiple supers on a hive may not be capped though. For me removing only a few supers isn't practical. The extractor holds 60 frames and the sump about...
