    Bell heather soft setting/Cloudy

No bramble for well over two miles , these hives are right bang in the middle of the Mourne mountains with nothing else around them but bell and ling heather.

    Bell heather soft setting/Cloudy

Where the bees are sited there is only bell, ling and the very odd contonaster bush scattered over the hills and it's always in berry no flowers when my bees are there. It turns a lovely tan colour with no granules in it that I can feel in the mouth.

    Bell heather soft setting/Cloudy

Hey all, Is it in bell heathers nature to cloud up/ turn to a soft set likeness? This honey is nothing but bell heather with maybe a slight touch of ling, turns not long after spinning out. Is this its nature? thanks Darren

    Green desert

It's just a Mourne thing, it's always been done like this, a lot of it is just to keep face, if the hedges got long the neighbouring farmer would be talking about them. Tradition. I have been in this house now 11 years and not one new tree has got a chance to grow for as far as I can see.

    Green desert

Here in the Mournes the farmers are wild for cutting everything back to the bare bones, My neighbour farmer was out today cutting outside the kitchen window and I had to go out and tell him what he was doing was so wrong . He knew how annoyed I was with hedge cutting and at one point was for...

A photo of where I place my hives for the heather in the Mournes. They are placed near the old quarry in the first photo. There are two dams, the one with the dam face is the top one and the other is the lower dam around two miles downstream. There is only one work access road in and out and the...

    Paynes Poly nuc feeders leaking

I bought a few and painted the inside with oil based satin with sand mixed into it, left about two weeks and all have bees in them now feeding and working away. Fumes not annoying them from what I can see.

Went up today and stuck a few clearing boards on, I am so proud of the girls, some of the finest frames of bell I have even had. One of the hives that swarmed early on has a new laying queen too so that has to be some sort of a record for the highest queen ever to be mated in Norther Ireland.

I went yesterday to check the bees after the awful weather we had, hadn't been up for over a week. The first thing that met me out of the jeep was a swarm followed by another and then another had taken up residence in a bait box I had left lol. The ling is sitting perfect and lovely weather...

The heather flow is at a stand still here in the Mournes, the ling has yet to really start although nearly in full flower now, bees were still working the bell last weekend. Frames starting to get capped.

Up again this evening and the flow here is massive, A full brood drawn out and filled and a super on top of that filled since Friday is my best, the rest are filling anything they have too. Am I right in thinking the lighter honey in the middle is ling, it can't be anything else where they are...

Bell out in the Mournes now but haven't seen a bee on it yet, too busy with the bramble, clover and lime. Patches of ling starting to flower in sun traps but the main show is still weeks away here.

    October Brood

Due to bees on the heather and what not I only got round to sticking apivar into hives on Saturday past. I had a quick peek through a few nucs and a hive at my front door here and some 8frame nucs were wall to wall brood, the only national at the house was very full too. I was pleasantly surprised.
