    Bulk honey prices

how long can you keep it for though? Surely after a while it deperishes?

    Bulk honey prices

It's not shares though and a bit of a gamble if you can't shift it. I was considering buying a few buckets but if stockists can't sell it and don't want to drop their profit margin, I will lose out.

    Bulk honey prices

With the cost of living and crippling interest rates, I am already seeing a drop in sales From my usual stockists, even those which historically been doing really well!

    Bulk honey prices

I haven't seen anything under £100 but then again, haven't looked closely!! I saw an ad this morning £110 for 30 Lbs and a guy selling last year's stock for £100 in South Wales.

    UK mated queens shortage

very sad to hear for all those who earn a living out of beekeeping. it goes to show how tough it can be in this country and perhaps why the Uk is, and will still be so reliant on queens' import....regardless what BIBBA says!!

    UK mated queens shortage

I have managed to postpone the breeder queen until next spring, it's feet up for me😂

    UK mated queens shortage

Not only the Jetstream has led to a really poor summer crop but it also seems to have impacted on UK breeders' ability to rear throughout August. I have spoken to a couple of breeders who have called it quits for this season with just enough mated queens for their own use.

    Queen rearing Advice

Not sure what others have said before but I put Qcs in apidea on day 14, not earlier. I have also found that a slight temperature change can delay queen emergence as it takes a bit longer to form, especially if smaller apidea type hives when set up for the first time. I have bought an incubator...

    Equipment Wanted Swienty jarring machine

Yes, it was £600 odd if I recall correctly. I was going to splash out on one this year but still unsure if I want to keep so many hive smoving forward.

sugar cost and when to buy

I have turned to ambrosia. We have bought a pallet of it (70 jerrycans) and it comes at £20 for 12.5kg, £1.60/kg. With the cost of gas, petrol to go around shops and my time to melt 40-50kg of sugar, it's pretty much the same.

    Summer harvest?

I started last week, will be finished by next. Nothing coming in and with this weather they will start eating through them. Luckily I have 2bb full of stores which I had saved. Frames are being used as supers are removed.

Paper-unite 3-frame nuc with defensive colony

Personally I would wait for your nuc to be established (add a frame of emerging bees if needed) and when it's done, go in the full hive, get rid of the queen, remove frames so you can drop your nuc straight in the middle of the brood nest using air freshener. You can cage the queen for added...

    Beekeepers holidays?

Themselves, I usually leave them a run down of what is acceptable and what is not and they generally behave 😂 I go before the season really kicks off and once supers have come off for a maximum of 10 days. I rarely open the hives after the 3rd week of August other than for uniting. I feed (if...

    Beekeepers holidays?

I tend to go back to France in April and August or September. Rest of the season we go away in the camper for (some) weekends. We still get the odd exotic surfing holiday in the winter months.
