    Beeswax votive candles

Yes, this is my first time making candles so I was hoping to learn from others experiences, whether the results of double pouring are worth the extra time and effort. Some of my attempts so far haven't been great, I seemed to get join lines when I tried to double pour... 🙃 I'm running out of...

    Beeswax votive candles

Did you give up on using the moulds in the end and just pour straight into the glasses?

    Beeswax votive candles

A quick question on the original subject of this thread, when making votive candles do you do a single pour or the recommended double pour method? I've tried a single pour, filling the moulds right to the brim and experience a bit of shrinkage but they appear reasonable and I'm wondering...

    Beeswax votive candles

I've printed my own labels because I wanted to be able to change the scents, use them for candles or wax melts etc with just a tweak of the design. I ordered avery labels and it was a bit of a faff setting them up but I really like having the flexibility to change them

    Beeswax votive candles

Update - I've subsequently tried putting any cracked candles in the oven (directly on the shelves) and once melted enough for the top to be covered by the melted wax, leaving them in there to cool. It has worked for me. Strange that we are all having different experiences with the same tins 🤷‍♀️

Not enough bees in the hives and not sure whether queen is in the hives

I just had a flashback to my first year of beekeeping and phoning my mentor close to tears "all my bees have gone" sob sob. I hadn't realised that a full colony of bees reduces down to maybe 4 frames when they cluster. I was also reprimanded (not politely - "wtf are you doing opening them up...

Does anyone else do Christmas gifts

... and the endless deliveries of parcels - "ooh that's a good idea, I could make some of those" and "I'm not sure that's enough, better order some more...". Luckily mostly they arrive during the day while I'm working from home and I can hide them before he comes home from work 😏

Does anyone else do Christmas gifts

Exactly, and now my friend who was gonna help has bailed on me and my hubby looked like a rabbit in the headlights when I told him he'd have to help instead of playing golf. No idea what to expect, my fallback plan if I run out is to take orders and deliver the next week. Feeling the...

Does anyone else do Christmas gifts

This year is my first year of having enough honey (and wax) to think that I might not sell it all so I've put together some gift boxes to sell as a made- to- order pick and mix, just in my village. In my over- enthusiasm I've also signed up for a christmas fair bit now concerned that I may...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

I don't have a workshop per se, but I have had some old hive parts kicking around for a while which I wasn't sure what to do with, this week I finally managed to get one of my neighbours to rip them into equal widths and made up a few of these. Not perfect by any means but I'm still quite...

    Beeswax votive candles

Ooh, let me know what you think and what you decide on price. I think that wick gives a really nice burn 😁

    Thoughts? What’s Happened Here?

Take a look at this post with a pic of laying worker- laid eggs and the workers up to their armpits laying brazenly as I watched! Post in thread 'Laying workers or new queen?' Laying workers or new queen?

    Beeswax candle bestsellers

At our local honey show this year there was a stand for children to make rolled candles using triangular sheets. *very* popular (and nicely balanced cone shaped candles. I haven't seen anywhere you can buy the sheets, has anyone seen them? They didn't appear to be cut down squares although...

    Beeswax candle bestsellers

I'm just having my first foray into the world of candle making and I'd like to make some to sell. Can I please ask forum members who already produce and sell beeswax candles what type of candles in their experience sell well, pillar candles, container candles, novelty shapes (which) etc? And...

    Beeswax votive candles

Ah yes 2 of mine cracked in the second batch, I put them in a pan of water and slowly warmed them until there was enough melted wax to cover the top of the candle. Then I left them in the water so they cooled more slowly and they were fine. Next time I'm thinking of warming the tins first to...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Update - a very quick check today (it's 17 degrees here!), all 6 frames drawn out, most of the syrup I fed has been capped and there are 2.5 frames of sealed brood. Reckon they might make it! What troopers - I am a very proud bee mumma 😃

    Beeswax votive candles

They were supposed to be 4oz tins, I think they actually took approx 3.5 ozs to leave room for the wick. I don't know what that translates to in ml, sorry. I printed the labels but it was a lot of faffing about to get them lined up properly (and even then they weren't particularly well...

Candle tins from amazon: Candle Tin 4oz - 24 Piece Candle... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0875WMWXZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Using 4candles NT44 wicks, seems to my inexperienced eye to give a good burn and reaches the edges of the tin
